I love the idea of fiction where human settlements on other planets are subject to the threat of stray munitions from a nearby orbital war. Like okay everyone, weather forecast says we've got a missile barrage coming in two years, let's start pouring concrete.

Oh boy can't wait for them to completely squander it because they're just another party owned by the same corporations and donors that own the Tories, and meaningful change is completely outside the purview of even the legislators who want it.

I don't know about cursed cursed, but I saw a scene straight out of a dark comedy several years ago.

I was driving home from a hike with former friends, down this long and winding 2-lane mountain road with popular spots. On our way down, we round a bend and see this fancy Charger rammed into the guard rail. The driver's side windshield was a jagged black hole. Next to the car, on the embankment, stood a sheriff's deputy. He was bent, with one leg up on the berm and resting an elbow on it, looking down over the edge with the most picture perfect "well, shit" body language I've ever seen. Wasn't hard to guess what he was looking down at.

It was very illuminating when I got more into crafting hobbies and discovered that I'm actually not incapable of working hard, which I thought was my problem all through school. Turns out I can work quite hard, I'm actually just incapable of pretending to give a shit about being someone's peon.

If the world worked the way liberals think it does I'd have become a cop straight out of high school

I too have heard the siren call of the Resident Evil alternate universe, where cops do good things and the US government disbands shadowy military contractors that cause huge biological disasters, and everyone is sexy and interesting.

Was really looking forward to that world as a kid, big blow to learn it doesn't work like that.

She could have made such a better bad faith argument if she knew that two of these countries were fascist-controlled at the time

It's kind of hard when what these others do or not do can kill us with plague

More of a conjecture than a talking point.

My quick go-to is "Imagine if the Confederacy, after losing the civil war, retreated to Puerto Rice, slaughtered the natives and every emancipationist they could find, and then spent the next 40 years in a state of martial law trying to root out "Yankee sympathizers".
