You know the jets have to be delivered to a location before they can be deployed in combat, right? They burn fuel fast and can only stay up for a few hours tops, they're not taking off from mainland United States for a sortie on another continent. An aircraft carrier can hold plenty of planes and choppers at a time, but they're huge and slow and burn even more fuel, making them big dumb targets for a military which already has their artillery primed and ready and would see them coming days before the carrier can get in position to scramble the jets.

Airstrikes are only an instant-win button when bullying the third world, and even then we're starting to see cheap and reliable anti-air technology which can shut down the average jet or Predator drone. Russia has been prepping for a clash with the entire West for decades, this isn't going to end well for the USA if they try.
