The bmw 7 series has advanced self driving features where you are allowed to take your hands off the steering wheel in some circumstances

Had some training with the guys that develop the driver assist tech for VW and many more. It was at about that time when Tesla launched the autopilot. They said they would be terrified and couldn’t live with their conscience launching it in that state / only using cameras.

This is to say that regulations and some sort of regard for ethics means that whatever gets put out by these companies will be a step above in Reliability and safety.

It’s about giving the engineering people and the marketers ammunition for the management. Hey, you know that if we don’t improve on efficiency and the materials we use we will have to get a rating of x while our main rivals are a y. Euro NCAP has the same effect.
