liberals of all stripes (conservative or otherwise) do not really hold steadfast lines on these topics; their opinions shift with the breeze. So right now conservatives have a position which aligns with communists but as soon as it is convenient or materially beneficial to switch to the pro-ukraine side they will. As others have stated there are a few ideological things going on for supporting russia at least, but I really think that the calculus comes down to cynical political convenience.

How do you determine from where the authority derives? Also, In your mind, can democracy look like anything other than western bourgeois democracy? And, if so, what are the mechanisms of democracy that imbue it with the anti-authority characteristics that counteract specific utilization of violence/authority?

Also, what are the appropriate measures of violence/oppression that a state can take on when dealing with, for example, foreign invasion/aggression before they switch over to authoritarian (despite claiming to be defending democracy)?

Does anyone have that article ( I think it was nytimes) that was about the author recently moving back to the USA from China with her kids, she spoke on how she was comfortable sending her kids on the train by themselves in china but decided it was better for them to experience the 'freedom' of the usa or something.

I somehow read this as being about the Spanish Real at first...
