Explanation: The Greek leader Pyrrhus of Epirus led an army of Greeks in support of Greek city-states in Italy against Rome. While he was an accomplished general, the Roman forces were stubborn, and made Pyrrhus’s victories so costly that he supposedly said “One more such victory against the Romans, and we shall be ruined” giving rise to the phrase “Pyrrhic Victory” for a victory that costs more than it’s worth!

Iran was Western-aligned during the Cold War. When the Shah's authoritarian regime was overthrown in 1979, Iran kept the military hardware that the US supplied the Shah with.

I believe that's an old joke from the period, though the Romanian Securitate did monitor people and phonecalls to an even greater degree than the German Stasi did.

In 260 AD, the Sassanids invaded the Roman Empire, deep into the Levant and Anatolia.

Currently, the Iranians are trading fire with the Israelis.

Honestly, you can get some pieces of antiquity very cheaply. It's why ancient coin collecting is inside the price range of many ordinary people.
