It's going to be slavery and strip mining on a scale that's unimaginable.
And trillionaire capitalists won't need to worry about ""human rights"" on their colonies, those are barely enforced on earth now as it is. Endless generations of slaves will never know any other life. That will be the human legacy if we colonise space.

I REALLY hope that doesn't happen. Our species is a fucking horror show of wars and bigotry. We should end when we kill our planet.
Prolonging this suffering isn't going to make humans a nicer creature, the authoritarianism, greed and corruptability is hardwired in. Can you imagine the sheer scale of fucking misery if humans filled other resource rich planets up with people?

Oooh, so is Time To Orbit Unknown, now I think about it.

(Also I misspelled Tamsyn, fixed it now tho)

Gideon The Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

It's horror science fantasy with lesbian necromancers in space, and all together just a lot of fun and surprisingly easy to read.

(And if you enjoy it, there's two more books continuing the plot)

My second recommendation is Time To Orbit Unknown by Derin Edala the link is to the first chapter of the actual story, as it's online and completely free.

This one is scifi with future humans in space and lots of mysterious weird shit that keeps happening.
Honestly, click the link and just read the first chapter, it's addictive and super easy to fall into.
New chapters are out every wednesday and sunday, and chapter 136 comes out tomorrow. I genuinely envy you for having so much of this story ahead of you to binge!

Accepting this is what my species is like and that this is the world we've made for ourselves, is the hard bit.
The good bit is that it will be over soon.

The rest is depression.

Prolonged extreme stress can wreck your body even if you're perfectly healthy before experiencing it, and it wrecks you faster and worse if you have any chronic illnesses.

I'm just guessing here but I don't think he was unstressed and perfectly healthy before going into prison.

His immune system was failing without the hiv meds, so all infections and diseases picked up while incarcerated was massively more harmful to his body than it would have been otherwise (or to anyone healthy).

Think about how dirty and unhygenic and likely over crowded these detention centres are and how little healthcare is accessible to anyone incarcerated.

There are yeasts and various skin fungi everywhere, lots of prisoners with 'minor' respiratory infections which are probably COVID, the food is the lowest quality with very poor production standards and often mould, there's very likely mould on the walls and bedding in the cells and fecal matter from toilet spray too.

Wow that's fucked up. I stopped keeping up with tv and pop culture stuff over a decade ago now and had no idea about most of this.

In hindsight, I really can't say I'm surprised Feilding and Brand were hanging out, or that both are misogynistic rapists. I knew far too many guys just like them back in the 2010's and it was very normslised behaviour.

A lot of men behave that way and get away with it their whole lives as they aren't famous, so I'm glad that at least it's public information and they're being called out in this case, even if it's not amounting to much beyond that.

Thanks for explaining!
