I think about him saying don’t tell my wife about the chicken wings at least once a week lol

Default Fedora workstation and Silverblue do it this way. First boot prompts you to create an account and set it up, then lands you on the desktop and asks if you want a tour of the UI

I filter depending on context, that’s just self protection in the heart of empire. I’m grateful to have an online outlet like this where I can speak freely though, fuck the agencies and corporations that police our thoughts. If my opsec sucks badly enough that they can get me for my beliefs I guarantee that leak would be in an account or device further upstream, Lemmy is an unlikely starting point for that lol.

Yah I’m aware of their US backing and their oil deals. If Assad was still around he’d be the obvious bulwark against imperialism in the region even with his obvious flaws. I suppose I’d hoped rojava had more staying power than just what the US deals had supplied so they could fill some of that role. I just find it tragic to see the region pulled apart for plunder again to this extent

Terrible. This just emboldens fascist erdogan and HTS, and crushes any chance of sovereignty for Kurds or continuation of the flawed but progressive experiment in rojava.

If the US backs away from continuing to commit this genocide over petty interpersonal drama, that’s good but I can’t imagine a dumber timeline

Lmao so that’s the third F18 they’ve lost from this ship? They had that friendly fire in December, then the one where the ship turned and the plane fell off, now this lol. This paper tiger empire is losing a conflict over a naval blockade this badly to a country with a low nominal GDP, still gripped by civil war, and which has no navy. Hard to imagine this force winning against a popular uprising or peer conflict lmao

That’s dope but also may as well be a sign that says “asbestos inside”

I don’t have experience with dual GPU laptops but from what I’ve heard PopOS handles them really well. They also have an image with the nvidia drivers preinstalled which should make the setup process straightforward

Edit: I also found this github repo which documents some fixes for issues on that device specifically. Not sure how many of these have been patched upstream by now but it’s worth checking out.

There are some good people in the org but the leadership sucks and are straight up revisionists. One of the co-chairs once wrote that “the dictatorship of the proletariat is the worst political idea put to paper” (paraphrased). The central committee has ossified and undermined democratic institutions within the party to ensure their continued staying power. I was in the party for a few years because it was the largest ML (ostensibly) party at the time and had international recognition through solidnet. But all we did was tailism for other progressive liberal orgs in our area and eventually just promoting democrats. I wanted no part of that so I left. There were good people in there who would push for real labor organizing, union drives, etc but those actions got no support from national and were sidelined constantly. The party as it exists has little revolutionary potential imo and acts as a sink for revolutionaries trying to get organized who just wind up wasting their time on some liberalism.

Edit: For those curious, here is the blog post where Joe Sims, current co-chair of CPUSA, says that the dictatorship of the proletariat is “the worst phrase uttered by a political theorist ever,” and also states that he doesn’t believe the USSR or Eastern Europe were socialist. He put out several of these blog posts around the same time and they’re all equally as revisionist, flat out misrepresenting the core tenets of Marxism.

I enjoyed the game Gris, it was a short and simple experience but enjoyable and very pretty. Played it with my partner who has never played games and they enjoyed the experience too

I’m not sure where you draw the line for “short” but the game Stray is only a few hours and really good. It’s cute, you play as a kitty cat in this post apocalyptic setting where all the humans are gone but the robots they used as servants are still around and living underground. The world building is cool and interesting, the puzzles are fun, and it’s visually appealing too.

Somebody else mentioned the game Jalopy, I think that game is a good time too. You’re just trying to travel across the country in a beat up car and keep it running. I played it years ago but remember it as a calm experience that I could just go full zen mode in. Good for relaxing while listening to a podcast or something
