Charging is rapidly improving. BYD is at 400km in 5min of charging today. That mostly solves the distance problem.

The current EU ban plans allow for hydrogen to be used. The only problem is that it seems to be a bad idea. Even for long range trucking, where it had the most potential.

You still believe that I ever said that Germany has American style suburbs.... Which I have never done.

You also continue to claim that I believe German cities have no alternatives to cars, which I have even used as a reason to reduce the number of cars above.

Honestly this feels like you live in a city and bought an EV, but lack a private parking spot for charging. So you feel personally attacked, by me being in any way anti car, as you love your car and hate the idea of anybody taking it away from you. You also seem to believe that everybody should live like you, as can be seen by your arguments of charging at home being a niche situation.

So just to say it, EVs are better the ICE cars and public charging in Germany does suck both in price and service. Should be improved for sure. However I much rather have ICE cars replaced with public transit, walking and cycling, then EVs. Especially in cities and I believe and have seen that this is entirly possible on a rather large scale.

The point is mainly that the EU should not give money to those countries to crack down on migrants, but rather promote human rights and rule of law to help those countries with the same money.

The EU currently imports a lot from countries like China, due to lower wages. Having strategic partners closer by would be pretty helpful. We are also not talking about some crazy populations here. Northern Africa has the biggest desert in the world as a barrier to the south. Then there is the Med. Russia is relativly rich anyway, so is Turkey. No reason for economic migrants and they are able to work as sponges. The Golf states are also migrant magnets fairly close to the EU. Economic migration can be helped by promoting human rights and helping those countries out.

The other part is war. The 2015 refugee crisis happened due to the war in Syria. The more stable the region, the less refugees. That means the EU has a natural intrest in keeping countries like Israe, Saudi Arabia, Iran and the UAE from blowing up the region all the time.

The alternative of rights-based development and labour market reform promoted in the article would be just as neocolonial as the current system.
