Personally I found the connection between Doom/video games and Margaret Thatcher /neoliberalism to be pretty weak. Individually, both points were great and very well stated. And the end conclusion was also pretty cool - unions failed to prevent neoliberalism so they may not be enough to defeat it today either but that doesn’t mean they aren’t a step towards rebuilding the kinds of communities that can.

Edit - also, if you want to draw in “apolitical gamers” they maybe that section talking about how the annoyances and problems people have with modern gaming come from capitalism should be presented before the political talk about neoliberalism.

They even gave me a free calendar! The costumes and sets look lovely!

They told me just how terrible the CCP is. Did you know the Chinese Communist Party is eradicating 5000 years of Chinese history??? It’s so sad.

They’re pretty much sold on capitalism = bad and socialism = good but having more resources for that would be appreciated too.

President Joe Biden refused to commit to keeping sanctions lifted on Iran for the rest of his term, even if Iran rejoins and complies with the nuclear deal.

EU diplomats recognize that the ease with which the United States can quit the agreement is a “serious and legitimate concern.” Tehran fears that the unreliability of the U.S. commitment to the JCPOA puts Iran in a very vulnerable position. By realigning with the JCPOA, Tehran will give up much of its nuclear leverage while Washington ostensibly lifts sanctions. However, sanctions relief will not lead to meaningful economic benefits for Iran unless Western companies feel confident about Washington’s longer-term fidelity to the agreement — which they do not. This would leave Iran giving up its leverage for nothing — particularly if Washington once again exits the deal.

Probably yeah.

Imagine the response to people saying, “Hey, this video with a girl crying about babies being thrown into incubators might be faked.”

Edit - This is just a video of BadEmpanada dunking on cringe Xanderhal/Vaush takes. Not an attempt to start a new struggle session.

On point. If you have the time to watch a twitch streamer ramble on, you probably have time to buy beans and rice.

NEVER give up control of the military.

Ewww. I’d like a better source than Vice but goddamnit this sucks.

The pushes for macho men have triggered backlash from an expanding feminist community. Many women feel offended by the term “sissy pants” and the sexist implication that traits associated with women are inferior.

Some internet users expressed worry that the official rejection of “sissy men” will encourage the kind of toxic masculinity that leads to violence against women, sexual minorities as well as men who do not fit into the traditional macho image.

“So men should be masculine, as in being dirty and having big bellies,” said one of the top-voted comments on the microblogging site Weibo.

“‘Sissy’ is the highest compliment for a man,” another person wrote. “It means the person is probably very handsome. He would pay attention to personal hygiene, have good manners, and respect women.”

Great to see people protest this decision.

Explicitly homosexual characters are not allowed on Chinese TV, and no prominent mainland Chinese celebrity has come out as gay. Platforms have previously blurred male stars’ earrings and ponytails because of their ostensible association with rebellion and counterculture.

Do better, Xi.

It looks like an interesting paper. I haven't read it or heard the podcast OP is referring to.

But I can definitely see his point on how toxic masculinity can be used as a weapon by liberals to further marginalise the poorer classes and communities of colour.

why is this happening.
