I was at BJ's wholesale, where they always check every receipt. Usually it's just a cursory glance, but one day they had some cop wannabe checking off every item on the receipt, causing a huge backup. I pushed my cart past the line and left. The guy chased me out into the parking lot, took my plate number and told me he was calling the cops. Nothing came of it, but it embarrassed the shit out of my partner.

I went home and did a bunch of research. From what I found, there aren't a lot of cases that addressed the issue, but I found a two civil cases where people were physically detained after refusing to show their receipt. They sued for false arrest and their cases were both dismissed. I'm not a lawyer and there may be newer case law on this.

I hate the checks, but it isn't worth it to me to risk dealing with cops when I'm not getting anything from it and making someone else's job harder.

Checking receipts when you leave a store. They have cameras everywhere and they can access my receipt through their computer system. I already paid, this is my stuff, they shouldn't be able to detain me without suspicion I stole something.

I don't raise a stink with the poor person checking receipts, though, because I am not an asshole.

That's right up there with the bodybuilding.com thread where the guy couldn't understand that 7/2=3.5

I hate HOA busybodies as much as the next guy, but those libertarians are crazy. They actually expected OP to do nothing about his next door neighbor trying to teach himself to fly a helicopter. They were saying he should wait until the rotors are flying onto his property, otherwise he hates freedom.

My favorite detail is that he spent $40k of his $100k scratch off lotto winnings on it.

I hate that question. I have a disability that isn't visible, and the question basically requires me to lie, deflect or share my diagnosis with people I've just met.

It appears to be a browser plugin that bypasses those countdowns that paying link shorteners use to force you to look at ads. Sites like adf.ly

For my Honda Accord you needed to buy a dealer installed addon(called home link IIRC) to get the garage door buttons.

Home Assistant works pretty well with Android Auto. If I had a garage door I'd connect it to HA with esphome and access it that way.

It was renamed after Judge Rotenberg who wrote a decision allowing it to stay open and continue shocking in the 1980's or 90's. This was despite plenty of evidence presented that it was frequently being used in violation of the centers own parameters for the "treatment". Low level staff had the unilateral power to administer shocks. Shocks were being administered for things like defecating in their diapers and refusing to eat.

Fuck Judge Rotenberg and the whole Massachusetts supreme court for allowing this to continue yet again.

One thing I've said to libs that has always seemed to connect with them is how capitalism makes parents turn their kids in to capitalists from the start.

They get them to think about ways their hobbies can make money, and push them away from hobbies that can't be made into a career. They'll say, "What good is learning X? X doesn't make any money"

These well meaning parents worry that their kids will waste their time pursuing their interests and not have the skills to compete in "the marketplace". They worry they will chase dreams that they can't achieve and end up destitute. So they push them into "practical" careers that are seen as safe and attainable, but are ultimately unfulfilling.

This is capitalism pitting parents against the dreams of their own children.

Is this about Dax Shepard?

He was JAQ-ing off on some podcast about trans people in sports and other basic TERF shit.

“Do I wish that the trans woman athlete had access and could play and follow her dream? I do,” Shepard said at one point during the interview. “Will I elevate her rights over women? We’re pretending that women aren’t the ultimate marginalized class throughout history.”

“Some people are very uncomfortable about teenagers transitioning,” Shepard said at another point. “They’re challenging that. How do we know that person’s not gonna change their mind?. [Conversely], what if they kill themselves? And that’s really fucking permanent—that’s a good counterargument.”

Isn't this all just due to YT copying tiktok? I haven't used tiktok personally, but every time someone tries to show me one I have to wait for it to come back around to the beginning, so I assumed there was no seekbar

All guide dogs for blind people I've seen are German Shepards. I don't think it's the breed.
