One would think that this is a foregone conclusion, but so many folks have been indoctrinated into the "unions = communism" group-think that they actively vote against their own best interests.

It's easy on some instances to click a name, then click the down arrow on everything they've ever posted. I have a couple of stalkers that are hounding me in this way currently, and there's no way to make them stop. That kind of nonsense makes people want to give up and go somewhere else.
Lots of angry folks out here; hard to get people involved when they see the "big contributors" going around brigading with no capacity for recompense, reporting or otherwise. I think we could get things moving a lot faster if we got rid of the downvote altogether; copying the Reddit way of doing things is... not great.
If you're serious about the nostalgia, then your best bet is to find a 32-bit processor and build a dedicated win98 system. ISOs are available everywhere, most with updates and a disabled registration system. You might even try a 2k or XP system. Win2K was my gaming system of choice for many years, thanks to its backward-compatibility.
Playing anything via virtualbox is... rough. If it's a DOS game, try dosbox or something similar. If you really need DX... whatever win98 used... then setting up a very specific Wine instance is the way to go.
Distros like Ubuntu or Mint are great go-tos, but if you're interested in a rolling release, I'd suggest OpenSUSE. That said, there's really no "wrong" distro these days; Steam runs on pretty much anything, and with it comes Proton. NVidia is a bit of a pain in the arse, but I'm running that everywhere here with few problems. The platform has really evolved over the last ten years or so.
I can't imagine why. As much as I love the fediverse and what it stands for, it's barely a blip on anyone's radar at this point.
At some point, maybe. Back when I was running my own Mastodon instance, things were pretty much in this same state, but lots of other things have improved.
I mean, in Russia, anything is possible, but in any country that respects the rule of law, you're a citizen if you pay taxes.
Ah, the old "contrails/chemtrails didn't exist when I was young" argument. Yes, they did; you didn't look up when you were a kid.
The Telegraph is probably one of the blandest news sources on the web. I've never once heard them described as "extreme," in any sense.
Hmm... well, VMWare used to make a virtual desktop app that was far superior in the way it handled DirectX apps, but I don't know if they still have/support that.
