That's cool! I'd love to learn more about that side of things. My current boss has a side-hustle as an espresso machine repairman; I should really ask him to show me a thing or two.

Depends where you're headed! I'll just list a few random spots off the top of my head (without getting too dox-y haha)

In Grand-Pré, NS, there's Just Us Coffee House, which is a coffee co-op with a focus on fair-trade and sustainability.

In Sackville, NS, there's Cranewood Bakery and The Roost Café which I've both been hearing good things about.

If you're in Moncton, NB, definitely check out Epoch Chemistry, especially if you're into lighter roasts. They roast in house and their baristas are very knowledgeable and friendly. I highly recommend their coffee tasting flight!

If your trip brings you to the Acadian peninsula (which I recommend on its own, lovely places and people around there!) La Boulangerie Grains de Folie in Caraquet is a must, as well as Aloha Café in Lamèque.

I'm intrigued, what do you do?

And yeah, I have no patience for pretentiousness or snobbery. Sharing something like good coffee with someone is a lot easier if you approach it with enthousiasm and understanding rather than a false sense of superiority.

I had an experience when I was younger and just getting into specialty coffee where a barista made a snarky comment after I ordered an americano. I didn't get a drink from a café for like two years after that. If someone comes into my café and is clueless about coffee, I'll share my knowledge if they seem interested, or suggest whatever's closest to their usual chain coffee shop order if they just want caffeine. I don't get the judginess.

Pic semi-related; one of my better tulip stacks. I don't often think to take pictures of my latte art, and even if I did my current spot is usually too busy to take the time for proper photos.

I know tulips are somewhat basic, but aesthetically they're definitely my favourite kind of latte art.

Smoko by The Chats is gonna be stuck in my head for the rest of the day now.

Genuinely, thank you.

C'est tellement un changement drastique, juste en 7 ans! C'est incroyable que d'autres municipalités peuvent voir ces résultats et continuer leurs politiques axées sur maximiser l'efficacité du transport automobilier au détriment de toute alternative possible.

That's such a drastic change in just 7 years! It's incredible that other cities can see this data and just continue on with their pro-car policies that prioritize motor vehicle efficiency to the detriment of any other alternatives.

Seriously, "most modern songs"? In the era with the most new music being produced in a massive number of different genres and styles that would have been unimaginable just a generation ago?

I like the oldies as much as anyone else, heck I only really got into listening to music after discovering The Beatles and '70s prog rock as a teen. But if you can't find good music being produced in 2025, that's not a problem with the music industry, that's a problem with you.

If anyone reading this struggles to find new artists they like, I recommend checking out NPR's Tiny Desk concerts as well as KEXP's live performances on YouTube. I've found a lot of artists I love from these sources.

It's working for me using Thunder on Android and through the web browser on both Lemmy.world and Lemmy.ca

Some apps/front-ends struggle with rendering all of Lemmy's markdown properly, that might be your issue?

I think this mostly has to do with how different communities across Canada celebrate Pride at different times of year. One city near me does Pride in June, the other in August. I don't know of any one organization which has events throughout the entirety of Pride season.

Honestly, I think a lot of the best music is good because it incorporates parts of multiple genres, especially more recent stuff. Genre labels are useful to an extent, but I really struggle with assigning genre to the songs I post here.

I might steal the "going off Wikipedia" idea!

Say what you will about the country, I have my fair share of criticism regarding Canada and would agree that we are, on the whole, cringe. But our flag? It's a good flag. I don't care what you think.

I relate really hard to this comment. My mother, for all her faults, truly seems to believe the best in people, which I do find admirable. Shortly before retirement, she worked a few retail jobs, where she thrived and loved getting the grumpy clients. She said trying to make them smile was always her favourite mini-game at work.

As much as I hate most people, that mentality has translated into my work ethic as a customer service employee. You never know what someone is going through, and unless you actively make the staff feel unsafe I will try my best to make your day a bit nicer.
