Absolutely. And be open that you don't have experience with it!!

I feel like boomers are the worst about this (as a young business owner I get tons of random dumb business advice from that age group) but that could just be bias

Forgot to mention- can't compare to photo prism as I've never used it!

I'm new to self hosting and I've only used it for about a month. During the last month all updates have been stable for me! But according to their roadmap they plan to do their official "stable" release a little later this year, so you could wait until then?

Also I'm running it in docker so that might help

Yeah it was over after pixel 3 or a little before iirc! Although to me it was obvious they would eventually kill it off because that's soooo much storage. It was just a trick to get people bought into Google photos (which is a great service but much too expensive for me and now basically totally replaced by Immich)

Yeah great perspective. I think we all need to have this perspective more as many tech companies will randomly change their minds on their products.

Kind of like how I got free photo backup on my first two pixels. It was a nice feature, I'm sad it's gone, but it's fine.

Have you checked used or refurbished options? You could get a nice tablet for half the cost probably

Maybe you can remotely control you actual server and do stuff? Seems kind of hard to use on its own but could be convenient for updating apps and checking stats on a homelab.

Then again a normal phone could do that

Hope it's cool to post this here

I've noticed that in multiple menus

  • Creating a multi-community
  • Tagging a community using !
  • Searching communities

There is no indication of which communities you've joined and which ones are just random.

For example there are multiple "asklemmy" or "no stupid questions" types of communities and when I'm searching for them I often can't remember which one I'm in.

Thanks!

I'm interested in hosting my own Lemmy instance. Never done any hosting but I have done a good bit of programming/web development in my life so I don't think I'll struggle.

Just curious if anyone has any good advice or common mistakes that I could avoid.

Also if there is already a thread or community around creating Lemmy instances, I'd love links to them!

Hey! New here, trying to replace the other site's ai communities.

How are you using chatgpt and how?

I pay for the pro plan and use it for fitness, planning, advice, personal research. I also own a small business and often use it for marketing and business operations advice. I think the pro subscription is definitely worth it for my use cases. I never get limited and don't really need more, but I like that I get access to slightly better models and have priority access when the servers get busy.

Would love to see some of your prints on here! When I was younger my dad and I built a 3D printer, and I loved it. Since then I haven't had the funds/time/space to get back into it but as that was like 12 years ago, I know 3D printing has gotten much higher tech.
