It's really silly, because it is impressive that Australia is 3rd after the USA and China. Just settle for that.

No it's way funnier. He did do the crime. Dining and dashing.

It's just he was mistaken for a international criminal from Hungary wanted for credit card fraud, who also had a habit on the side of dining and dashing as well (just for kicks I guess).

So the Queensland police got tipped off by Interpol that this Hungarian guy might be around doing credit card fraud, but he might be dining and dashing.

So when they got reports of a guy serially dining and dashing, they launched this huge operation to catch him. But he was just a random Australian guy.

I'm in the LGBT inclusive low stimulus room, sponsored by Raytheon.

It's wild. I'll admit I was worried about it helping him swoop back in.

I think the fact the shooter was a white reactionary just looking to kill anyone famous nearby took some of the wind out of their sails. That and how Trump wasn't really that badly hurt, like it turns out it was a scrape from some glass not an actual gunshot wound. It's not like Reagan having to have surgery.

That and the timing of Biden stepping down and Harris ascending.

Some people get all the luck

Probably needs a content warning somewhere.

I think about how the joke "shot himself twice is the head" thing sometimes is sometimes actually true. Like sometimes suicidal people fail the initial attempt and keep going instead of seeking help or stopping.

But there's like no way that happened here, this seems like the fiancé killed her.

Lot of good answers here. As I always keep bringing up contradictions are resolved by practice. The USA is built on a whole host of contradictions international, national, economic and societal, and we can't predict how they will be resolved. Even if the very unlikely event everyone somehow peacefully threaded the needle to resolve all these contradictions in a way that a USA still exists it would not be the same USA through the process it's been through.

Carson is the guy at work you’d never hang out with after hours, but time flies because of the bizarre stories he tells. JD Vance is the guy who makes you feel like you dread coming in because he’s so off putting.

Sometimes I remember Australia had a prime minister fluent in mandarin. Like he was interpersonally a dick and a giant neoliberal, but I don’t think that will happen again.

It does feel it’s fallen off a bit. And it was I think largely a cultural import from the USA.

I’ve on and off done some work helping prisoners over the years and I can’t remember the last I’ve heard any jokes, but might just be I keep good company.
