I'm pretty sure it's a known strategy of a handful of billionaires (the richest man in PA comes to mind, though I forget his name) to back moderate dems to shift the board to the right.

Yeah I'm not sure this is true, though I imagine it's only a matter of time. Anecdotally, but I know a guy who definitely has PTSD from, among other things, watching onscreen as such an automated weapon of war homed in on two combatants fleeing, closing in until finally one of them, looking over his shoulder directly at the camera, gave up and stopped running immediately before death.
You're not the only one. Pretty sure I got W3 with dlc for $5 ages ago. I'd like to get cyberpunk with dlc for no more than $15. Especially since I was pretty hype for that game. Had been itching for something with a proper world to explore and get lost in, felt like it was going to scratch that itch. I don't often buy things day one, but I was taken in by the advertising and CDprojects rep. I took the day off work and then didn't even buy it because of everything.
Honestly it's a pretty clever scam by conservatives. Run on a platform of big government is inept, wasting your money, we need to reduce spending and reduce taxes! Once in office, do nothing. Sabotage functional government. Obstruct long term projects. Now you have things to point to as proof that big government is bad and does nothing, because you were the big government and made sure nothing happens.
Absolutely get the anxiety, though I will agree with your family that it's a basic skill. Astonishingly, a significant number of jobs here in the US require a driver's license, even if driving isn't part of the job responsibilities. A friend of mine is hitting this right now and it's making their life a lot harder.
Honestly I think it was more than 15 years ago. As soon as "light trucks" (a category including SUVs) became less regulated than any other vehicle, it's been aggressive marketing from automakers to push them. Remember when even the Simpsons was pushing how terrible and dangerous SUVs were with the canyonero? It's just been political loopholes pushed by corporations, and now we live in a country where the top 3 best selling vehicles have all been 20 foot long pickups for years.
On the other hand, his primary win has gotten a MASSIVE amount of news coverage. This is a big amount of groundswell for an underfunded candidate. You're right, the battle isn't won yet, but spreading news and expressing support will only further that cause.
