This might have something to do with the dock using USB-C in Display Port alternative mode, and then taking this signal and shoving it in a HDMI port going to the screen. Maybe something is lost in translation along the way.

Yup, Germany needs better highspeed railways. It only takes 1h45 from Paris to Strasbourg which is roughly halfway between Paris and Berlin. So the whole trip could potentially be under 4h downtown to downtown.
