I think this is the answer. It seems like Microsoft is laying the foundation to go all-in on cloud gaming and/or gamepass. I think their ultimate goal is to dip out of the console wars altogether and be at the forefront of what they think could be the next frontier in gaming.

Honestly, it's kinda smart. Idk if cloud gaming could really be the future (at least in the US) until we have better infrastructure and access to fast/reliable internet without data caps is more ubiquitous, but carving out a niche for themselves instead of locking horns with the competition is pretty clever. It's worked for Nintendo. Most PC and console gamers I know also own a Switch, in part because of the quality of the exclusives and in part because of the relatively accessible pricing of the console, but also because the Switch hardware offers a unique experience (well, it was a lot more unique pre-Steam Deck).

Isn't the whole point of OF that content creators can work independently? It feels pretty lame to game that system and try to insert yourself as a middleman.

I had a little girlfriend when we were in first grade. lol I don't recall anyone ever asking me if I had a girlfriend or anything, and I had plenty of friends that were girls and no one ever teased me about it that I remember. I knew it was okay to be friends with girls, I just had a crush on this one. We played Zelda together and talked on the phone for hours about whatever dumb things first graders talk about, then her family moved to another state. It was my most successful relationship to date. 😂

@averyminya I like action anime a lot, too. I'm a sucker for shōnen. lol FMA Brotherhood is possibly my all-time favorite, it's between that and Mob Psycho 100. I will check all these out, thank you for the recs! :)

@xilliah Thanks! I'll check it out. :D

YouTube. I know it sounds goofy, but often you can search something like "Baldur's Gate 3 gtx 1060 6gb i7-4790K" (or whatever your specs are) and you will get tons of videos of people running it on their systems. If you happen to have common parts, you will not normally have trouble finding a benchmark for a rig very similar to yours for most games, but even with more niche hardware, you can usually find something helpful, even of it's just like a similar GPU or another laptop with the same chipset, or whatever your case may be.

Beyond that, Steam's hardware requirements on the store pages of games and pcgamingwiki are great resources.

I'd also say you can look on protondb--it's for Linux gamers, so the results may or may not be applicable if you have a Windows system, but in most cases, if there's a report that something runs well on Linux machine with the same hardware as you, it's going to be very similar on Windows. The other way isn't so applicable, though--just because something runs poorly on a Linux rig doesn't necessarily mean it will also run poorly on Windows, as the problem could be with the compatability layer and not the hardware.

None of these are a perfectly elegant solution, but they are typically reliable enough.

My personal AOTY was Oshi no Ko. There is a lot going on in that show, even just tonally between drama, suspense, and humor; but it balances everything so well, and it has some really well-written, complex women characters, which was awesome to see.

Aqua is kind of an incel, but I think the parallels drawn between him and Ai's stalker are intentional, or at least that's the impression that I get after S1. Even so, his strange and convoluted relationship to Ai makes for a really interesting psychological dilemma, and he is a very interesting protagonist. While some of his actions are well-intentioned, he is also capable of some pretty abhorrent stuff. I hope to see something of a redemption arc for him, but wherever it goes, I think it will be a fun watch.

Beyond some excellent characterization and great writing, the music is amazing, the art direction and animation are gorgeous, and the overarching mystery and supernatural twist make it extremely compelling.

Season 2 is one of my most anticipated upcoming anime.

This report doesn't really make sense to me.

  • He died from acute effects of ketamine infusion therapy that he had a week and a half before, but ketamine's half-life in the system is just 3-4 hours and could not have still been in his system a week and a half later. Yet he had ketamine in his system, not from his last prescribed administration, but it was also deemed that he had not been using illicit substances. How did the ketamine get in his system then?

  • He had been clean for 19 months, but he was still taking Buprenorphine to ween off opiods. Are you normally weening off for that long?

  • "The contributory factors in Perry's death included drowning, coronary artery disease, and buprenorphine effects." None of those are "acute effects of ketamine." Also, wouldn't the drowning be the leading cause? Like it sounds like something caused him to lose consciousness and then he drowned.

Is this article really badly written, or am I just dumb? 0.o

This is not an attempt to convert Lemmy users, nor is it a slight on Lemmy. I'm sure there are plenty of reasons why Lemmy works better for some, and I love the fact that we not only have multiple choices, but multiple choices that allow us to interact with each other regardless! It's amazing. Lemmy is great, no shade.

With that said...

Why YSK: I see a lot of users posting frequent questions about Lemmy that are currently answered by kbin.

For example:

  • The ability to block a whole domain, or subscribe to one
  • The ability to subscribe to individual users
  • A built-in search tool to find communities all over fedi (kbin, Lemmy, Mastodon groups, etc.) with an indication of how active they are
  • Mitigation for the "tracking pixel" issue

I find that almost every day, I see Lemmy users asking about features and I think, "well, kbin does that." I think it would be worthwhile for more users to check into both platforms and decide which might be best for them.

I know there's no official info on it. Just curious if anyone's caught wind of anything or wants to make an educated guess, just cause I'm curious what people think.

I'm way too excited, but I'm not buying a PS5 for one game. lol

Hey, friends! I have a weird issue that I'm hoping someone can suggest a fix for, cause I have searched all over and cannot find an answer.

Essentially, for the last several months, I randomly get these black flashes that happen at the top of my screen. They take up the top 1/4-1/3 of my display and they're gone in an instant. They happen at random times. Not while I'm gaming, but sometimes when I'm watching a non-fullscreen video, browsing the web, etc. I cannot purposefully trigger it, I have no clue what it is. The only thing I can think of is maybe it's krunner, because it's positioned similarly to the krunner search bar? I really have no clue.

It seems to pop up more often while I'm active (typing, scrolling, clicking, etc.) but not in any one particular program or at any particular time, and it definitely happens when I'm inactive, too. It's really hard to pin down what triggers it.

Specs:
OS: Fedora 38 (KDE Spin)
Display Server: X11 (but it happens on Wayland, too)
GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X

My system/software is fully up to date.

I'm always running OpenRGB, GWE, and Mullvad VPN in the background, and I often have Firefox, Element, and/or Steam open at any given time. I don't think it's any of those, but I'm including this info in case it could be, or if it's helpful.

Any advice is welcome! Thank you.

I keep these notes for myself, figured they might help others, as well. :)

I'm a long-time guitarist, new to playing this genre. I'm trying to get a sound reminiscent of Blink, Sum 41, etc. Their sound is crunchy, but has a lot more clarity than say metal guitar usually has. I'm having trouble making it punchy enough without getting too muddy.

Pedal-wise, I only have a tuner, a crybaby, and DOD FX510-B Overdrive Plus. I'm playing with a crappy single coil strat that I'm hoping to upgrade to a nicer humbucker strat one of these days.

I know those bands are probably rocking Marshal stacks and have lots of stomp boxes to play with, but if anyone can suggest some settings that might get me closer to that sound with the gear I have, I would really appreciate it. 🤘

A curated list of delightful tools for digital creatives in a variety of mediums.

The arbitrary 8.5-9 hour workday drives me nuts, because a lot of the time, I really only have 3 or 4 hours worth of work to do. I generally work quickly and I value my time. Can I make a decent living doing something that gives me this kind of flexibility?

Is there a decent Overwatch 1 ripoff out/in development? I miss OG Overwatch a lot. 😭

I feel like I've skipped a lot of months the last year or two, but I got this month's Humble Choice right away. Several games that have been sitting on my wishlist for ages were on here. Anyone else snagging this one?
