The volcel police will come for me but I must post
You should read In The Court of the Nameless Queen by Natalie Ironside, it's pretty good. And also maybe The Price on Her Head by Suzanne Clay.
Also Gentle_Breeze just started Sin Eaters with dietsoda on AO3, which is really incredibly fascinating, I find.
"Good rep" is a goofy concept outside of cis-written tradpub novels which fumble basic concepts, Idk. I liked it in The Last Girl Scout where Mags shoots this dude point-blank in the gut for misgendering her and being disobedient, that was pretty funny
EDIT: if "Messy and real" is the criteria, and the "fuck like hell" is not literal because I am silly, I can also thoroughly recommend
-
The Last Girl Scout by Natalie Ironside (again!)
-
Little Blue Encyclopedia by Hazel Jane Plante, as well as Any Other City by her
-
Nevada by Imogen Binnie (I will never ever shut up)
-
Fluids by May Leitz (goes really hard)
-
Little Fish by Casey Plett
-
My Dinner with Andrea by Jen Durbent
A lot of this tradpub, litfic-y stuff can be depressing, it's also invariably about white trans women and at times borders on polemical... but that doesn't make me less of a Maria Griffiths enjoyer, Idk. I have tried to prune that stuff, I think only Little Fish, Andrea and Nevada qualify here. I still think all of these go pretty hard though.
