I want to make a "pack" of herbal cigarettes for my boyfriend for christmas because he quit and wants something to replace the tick/something to do when we go dancing. Does anyone have advice for home rolling machines? It don't need to be perfect, but so many of the herbal joints I've rolled have just smoked like ass. Also advice on my blend? I been using mainly rose petal and mullen with a bit of yarrow and mugwort. I grind it up real fine and bake the non-powder herbs under low heat for a while to make sure its real dry.

My budget is probably about $50 for equipment. Maybe maybe more if there is a really good and compact solution.

Really really love this man and we love smoking together but its just time to get off tobacco. Not sure if this is bad because it perpetuates the 'script' of having a little smoke, or good because it allows us to indulge in a way that don't keep us on the addictive part which really underlies the pattern.

Also doing this for me if it didn't come across in the writing lol.

Smoked plant matter (tobacco and weed) are usually kept at a relatively higher humidity to avoid excess drying. Tobacco is cut into a string like consistency (shag) when rolled into cigarettes. You don't want to dry and powder your mix. If it's too fine no air will flow thru and it won't burn. And if it's too dry, it will burn too hot and be harsh on the throat and lungs. Skullcap and Damania are kind of nice.

Damiana makes for a great herbal smoke. There was a point in my life where I regularly smoked damiana because it's really nice.

I don't like getting high, it makes me feel like I'm having a seizure.

That may be related to too high of a dosage. You may have better luck with "cbd-only" or "cbg-only" hemp flower if you don't like the concept of getting high at all.

Did he use to smoke roll ups or "industrial" cigarettes ? if its the latter, as for equipment, look for a manual cigarette making machine like this. And buy tubes to go with it like this. Plop your grinded blend into the machine, push the lever, you get a cigarette. Buying both should set you back about 20$, if that.

If you're going for roll-ups, you might try this contraption; I dislike it but one of my friend hates rolling and she swears by it.

Also if it smokes like ass it might be the blend; either its composition or it being too powdery / grinded too fine (or even too dry - you want some moisture there). For the composition I won't be able to help much there, though I did do blends using blue lotus (Nymphaea nouchali var. caerulea) along with mint on rare occasions in the past as a carrier for other stuff, and the lotus made for a pleasant smoke - be aware it's supposedly a sedative; if it is, it's an extremely mild one though, at least when smoked.

Finally, I'm sure you're aware but cigarette addiction is as much if not more the ritual / habit itself as the actual chemical addiction to nicotine; you're getting rid of the latter (which is good) but in terms of health the incomplete combustion products from those blends will likely be just as carcinogenic as cigarette smoke.

Thanks for the advice and the concern! I know it's not going to be healthier, I think its just a more sustainable level of vice. Like a lot of the time, I just bum a cigarette or two when I go out and then end up buying a pack a few days later. This way, I feel like I have a less-bad alternative accessible. Like not smoking at all is the best best, but I'm not quite there yet.

When I rolled my own cigarettes, I learned on the second picture shown, which is very cheap and easy to use, as long as you don't over pack it

Good luck, regardless though. I quit about a year and a half ago, and hopefully finally for good

what is an herbal cigarette?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It's commonly used to describe a cigarette containing other dried herbs than tobacco or weed.

ahh, thank you!

When you're saying real fine, I'm thinking there's probably too little air coming through your mixture, so you're having weird combustion happening. Maybe try to go coarser, see how that burns. Might be harder to roll though.

Blend-wise, I'd look into Damiana. It's sold pretty cheaply as tea and gives a rather pleasant smoke without the nicotine. Gotta sort out the stems though. It's also got some supposed health benefits I've never felt a thing of but hey.

No ideas about rolling machines though, sorry. I am the rolling machine

I know this isn't what you asked for but have you considered a 0mg nicotine vape instead

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I categorically will not vape.

I haven't rolled tobacco since I was in rehab but I got a top-o-matic for free from one of the guys that left and it works super well. You can buy cig tubes at any tobacco shop and they fit right on the machine, just put in the mixture, crank the handle, and it rolls a perfect cig for you that burns just like normal.
