No need to hide in a cave, bro, but screenshots-of-screenshots, at least as far as I've seen lately, are already a part of "the culture." There's no winning this war; you can only hope to survive it.
Memes
Rules:
- Be civil and nice.
- Try not to excessively repost, as a rule of thumb, wait at least 2 months to do it if you have to.
I beg to disagree. Lemmy is new, doesn't have to cave to "the culture" that is now prevalent on reddit. Memes are created by users. They are OC. Screenshots are reposts by design. I was hoping Lemmy would be a better place than what reddit had become
We can hope. But in the end it’s the people who post that will decide. I think we should continue to allow the people and culture of the sub to define itself, instead of making mandates
If we do that, the culture will be defined by people who don't care about the culture.
A proper discussion followed by polls to establish rules would greatly increase the content quality now that lemmy is moving towards mainstream.
Are users not the ones who care about the culture?
On Reddit, wasn't that kind of thing mostly just relegated to other subs? Similarly to other whatever-th degree meta jokes. Could be a thing here too.
I just downvote any uncropped screenshot and ignore the content at this point. Have people really gotten too stupid to crop?
We are in the social media age... yes, people really gotten too stupid for those kinds of things. Same with taking photos of screens instead of making a screenshot.
I can at least understand taking photos of the screen because console manufacturers go out of their way to make it difficult to take a screenshot and get it on your phone.
But cropping literally takes 10 seconds. Or 5 minutes if you're doing it for the first time and don't have an app that can crop.
I do not think people became stupid, but it so easy to post stuff that even the technologically iliterate can now post. Also many people underestimate the amount of people acessing media on their phone. Maybe i am too old to know all options, but i feel like a phone is not the right tool to produce any quality content.
Definitely takes time and effort
I'd say lazy more than stupid
It's kinda hard on mobile
.
Thanks for the info and the proposal. I see communities get organized and talk to each other. I gives hope for a better fediverse
This sub needs more mods, I don't want to make this decision by myself. At the moment it seems like not everyone agrees with you.
Yeah, we should chat and try to find someone.
I don't really care either way about the outcome, but thank you for your honesty and transparency here. I think it's important that the community chooses their rule changes instead of a few mods. Maybe we could have a vote?
Coming out of the cave to point the numbers under the post. Seems that a clear majority has emerged from a honest discussion.
You mean a vote on who will be a new mod?
Interestingly enough this sublemmy never has any reports etc, y'all really are behaving very well.
I meant vote on the rule change.
Aaaaah, I see!
The screenshots have stopped anyways, so it's no longer relevant. You agree?
It looks like we've moved on to old memes instead!
I love the energy that the meme subs on lemmy have developed.
How does one make more moderators?
I and the lemmy.ml server admins can appoint them. And @[email protected], the other mod can also of course.
Yes Understandable I agree, that's why I opened the conversation
Hi, @[email protected] suggested I added brackets to the title. Are there guidelines about title edition?
No guidelines, just do it :)
Take the chance now to stablish rules for screenshots AND not allowing comics at the same time (I understand that it's what you meant by "cartoons", right?)
There is a community already for the latter here: [email protected] and if people like screenshots so much they can already create their own, as you said (def wont be joining that one myself 😅)
It seems that we need more mods in this commu
