The fact that a shift manager can't say "you can be 30m late on deliveries, take it now" is infuriating.

If you find an injured owl:
Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.
Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.
Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.
If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

I wish he either had a friend or someone he could have called to retrieve it, or if there was a local animal transport person that was available, but I'm glad someone at least got the little guy eventually.
I wonder if you can Uber/Lyft an animal.... 🤔
A manger's priorities and a worker's are generally at odds with each other. Especially with a logistics company, their whole existence is getting things from A to B in the most efficient way.
I got to be the manager once, because I thought it was something I was supposed to aspire to, but I learned it's not just being the lead worker, it's pushing the big boss's will onto the people getting stuff done. I didn't last, and I don't ever really want to do it again. It's not who I am, at least not the way most places are run anymore.
Attaboy Justin! Do good work!
He really delivered a win for owl-kind!
I’ll allow it. :D
I appreciate it! 😉
I'm sad that we needlessly made ourselves an environment where a worker like this hero felt (most probably legitimately so) that he didn't have/couldn't spare the time mid shift.
I'm really glad he helped this superb owl!
I was just showing the story to my girlfriend and said the exact same thing. Flying face first everywhere makes pretty much every impact a head injury, and for the brain and those massive peppers, time can be critical.
Regardless, this guy ensured the owl got care to begin with, so bless him for that! ❤️🦉
Yeah, the shock and exposure (weather & just the openness/unprotected location) alone ...
But def gg to the dude, I'm def not trying to blame him for anything at all.
It's ok. I know you are really a good shrubbery at heart!
No I'm not!!
I leaned over the owl by accident, not to shield it!!
My mistake. Your evil reputation remains intact! 😜
I get what you're saying, but packages often need to be at a place by a specific time. It might not be right, but people pay extra for guaranteed delivery and we don't know a customers situation. They may need their medicine before their evening flight or something. The courier doesn't know. Save an owl, make life hard on your customers. That's a hard decision to make, but luckily the owl was cool with chilling until later.
I'm just gonna say if you need urgent delivery FedEx is not the play. Those fuckers will leave a "sorry we missed you" sticker at the door when you're home and waiting.
Yes, urgent deliveries for life & death situations are core infrastructure and should never be left to private corps running on (sub?) minimum costs.
They're all a gamble, in my experience. Just depends on who drives your route, and if they're a decent person who gives a fuck. Parcel deliveries are priced based on a single delivery trip, if they make two trips they've blown their margin and are losing money.
As I said, we made the system such, I'm not saying that it isn't such.
The cynic in me expects to next hear FedEx fired him for not completing his route in a timely manner. But I’m in a shit mood today, so hopefully that’s just me.
If I find out they did, I'll report it here so we can put them on blast! 💥
I'm assuming he's good if he let them post his pic and all that. They should give him Employee of the Month!
The hero we need!
FedEx - When it absowlutely, positively has to be there overnight.
Should name the owl, "Wilson".
I guaran-tee!
Love it!
I'm glad he took the time to help the little creature and I don't think it was malicious but this part really bugs me:
the postal carrier
A FedEx driver is not a postal carrier yet. The USPS is under attack from inside and out by private interests.
I checked Raven Ridge's post and they didn't call him that, but the local NBC, ABC, and Fox did, so I'm guessing some wire service must have done it.
USPS is one of the best US institutions!
Hopefully the owl makes a full recovery. Sending good vibes. ❤️
They seem pretty good at doing follow ups. I just got a follow up on an older story when I went to see if they had more info on this one! I'll probably share that tomorrow.
