Too many titles spoil the punch line, though. I can't risk it without reading the comic first.

But how many times I've scrolled down to a happy smiling face, I start to smile too, them BAM, title starts: Teen killed when..."

Fuck... I get shit at work for not reading subjects in emails too.

Had one person put the whole email in the subject to fuck with me. It worked.

Kinda hard to miss on the default lemmy UI lol

Jokes on you, I read the title, forget that I read the title, read the post, then go back and read the title again 😎

I don't get it... How is "too late" the punchline?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 5 days ago (1 children)

It’s telling the reader they are too late reading the title after being called out for not reading it.

As someone that reads titles and is therefore the superior romantic match I am immune (to thinking it was funny)

I don't get it either, and what order are you supposed to read it? Does the title come first, or at the end?

[–] [email protected] 42 points 5 days ago (1 children)

read the comic, realize you didn’t read the title, read the title. too late.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Thanks for the explanation. I didn't get it until you explained it. Ironically, the people who read titles will have a harder time understanding the comic, because we've read it out-of-order.

I read the title, discarded it from memory because I had no context or meaning for it, read the comic, went back to remind myself what the title is. Now I just feel numb.

Oh just brag about stealing my wife, why don't you!

Also on my lemmy the title of a post is below the image. It would be very strange for someone not to read the image first. This joke is bad.

It depends on what client you are using. It’s above the post on Voyager.

I didn't notice the title...but I also misread her as "He reads articles" and that was funnier than the originally intended joke. 🤪

Violation on the field, meme is not self-contained... first down vote.

He never even had a chance, poor fella.

That's genius lol

Naw man, I never read the titles of comics. I just like to go in raw yanowaddahmean?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 5 days ago

Most people read the title and not the article. Anyone out there reading articles without reading the title? 🤔

[–] [email protected] 6 points 6 days ago

Staaaaaaahp

In my defense, my app puts titles below images

So what is this emerging sub-genre of memes called? That rely on the title integrated into the meme itself?

Just a regular "breaking the fourth wall" tactic
