Hey there cachers!
I found my first ever geocache 7 years ago in Central Park while visiting NYC. I found about 4 that day and they were all in the south-most part of the park, I remember that it felt like I had really just scratched the surface as far as the amount I uncovered vs the amount that were actually available There were really a ton of them.
I am back in NYC 7 years later and wanted to do some geocaching in the park and was surprised to see that there are only 4 traditional caches in all of Central Park! One of which I had found 7 years ago (the rest I had found have been archived). The park is full of mystery caches, virtual caches and earth caches (not really my thing) but I was surprised that there were so few traditional caches.
Since I only really do geocaching when I am travel in manda therefore this is the first time that I am revisiting the same place for geocaching, I am wondering if anybody else has noticed this as a trend in geocaching? Are the traditional caches becoming rare and dwindling in numbers, or is this just a coincidence and bad timing? Are alternative caches types taking over the game?
Thanks!
