We got a little unit in a block of flats in north-east Adelaide City. The building doesn't have a green bin pick-up. Is there anywhere close by we can donate our food scraps to? Happy to travel a bit if need be.

Also, does anyone remember an app or site where people listed their backyard composts that food waste could be donated to?

By the way, the picture is from the net.

Your best bet would probably be community gardens. I imagine most of them will have a compost system of some kind.

You might have to look each garden up individually to check if and when they accept food scraps, though, or even message them to ask.

This is my thought also. I've been looking around since we arrived. Some places don't seem to have contact details. We'll have to go visit when we have time. Rundle Mall does have public green bins which our food waste would fit in to so we might take advantage of that in the meantime. I spoke to council and their advice was that's not really what they're for but the person on the phone couldn't see how it would be an issue. They're also going to make enquires for us about other options. Apparently we can petition for the building to get a green bin service but I suspect that would have to be initiated by strata/management. The building seems to use the same garbage chutes for all waste. Kinda wild, never lived anywhere with chutes before. Need to explore the garage to see if we can even place our own waste in the proper bins.

I thought councils provided green waste bins for everyone throughout Adelaide

There’s a community garden in Veale Gardens on South Terrace, they might take kitchen waste

Council got back to me. They say our building will get green bins in four to six weeks. Everyone will get caddies and so on. Considering I've seen that waste and recycling tend to end up in the same large dumpster bins (due to building's use of chutes) I don't see how this is going to work. We'll see.

Yeah ok. You may have to carry it down to the basement? Not exactly convenient.

I don't mind. We used to do that in our old flat in Sydney.
