  1. Keep it civil. We're all people here. Be respectful to one another.

  2. No sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia or any other flavor of bigotry. I should not need to explain this one.

  3. Must be tumblr related. This one is kind of a given.

  4. Try not to repost anything posted within the past month. Beyond that, go for it. Not everyone is on every site all the time.

My account, “the angry man” was abruptly terminated. I have done nothing that violates tumblrs terms of service.

The only pattern I see is that I have been routinely calling out TERFs, who have falsely been claiming to be detransitioners, have graduate degrees etc.

It appears that tumblr is actively hostile to people calling out transphobes. The site has decided to take a stand, and that stand is with Russian trolls.

It's been known for years that the tumblr admins are actively transphobic.

I am just absolutely mystified at why I would be banned. I did absolutely nothing to violate TOS. It happened pretty much immediately after I called out an account that was claiming to be a TERF and have a doctorate.

I did not doxx anyone, I have not harassed anyone, I have not posted any content that would be considered “lewd.” The sole reason I appear to be have been banned is calling out TERFs, especially what are clearly ChatGPT/troll accounts.

I’m just so disturbed. They are leaving up violent content that calls for the death of trans women. They took me down with no warning or reason.

I really don't think they give a fuck about their TOS when it comes to this topic ... they'd put in "no trans-friendly content allowed" if that didn't get them into legal trouble (though that's probably not a big deal anymore) and their user base wasn't overwhelmingly trans-friendly.

I never disputed that you didn't do anything ban-worthy ...

Yeah - I guess I’m just inviting people to look at it. It makes no sense.

I’m starting to suspect that Tumblr itself might be running some of these accounts.

This is less about intersite drama, and more that tumblr seems to be yet another social media platform which is hostile to trans people. I got banned because my account primarily calls out TERFs for doing things like manufacturing quotes and lying about academic studies.

The internet is becoming trans hostile, and there also seems to be a lot of usage of AI to pretend that transphobic ideas are more popular than they are. As well as historical revisionism - I was routinely fact checking people who claimed that the Nazis invented being trans.

It’s not that I give a shit about my account - it’s that there’s something more fucked up and insidious going on here.

But if Nazis invented the trans, then MAGA should be in favour of them...

It’s usually TERFs, not MAGAs. It’s a Rowling thing.

It’s based on the fact that Erwin Gohrbandt did help in the first vaginoplasty ever performed on Dora Richter. Gohrbandt went on to participate in medical atrocities at Dachau. He was not the leader of the Institute of Sexual Research, he just participated in a surgery there.

From this one fact, the story spins out of control. I have seen multiple people claim that the Nazis invented the “transvestite passes” that were available for trans people in the Weimar Republic. This is a disgusting lie, because the Nazis in fact revoked these passes and used them as a means to track down and murder transgender people.

This is also an attempt associate transgender surgery by with medical experiments (really just murder, the only thing even close to scientific was the hypothermia research) done at places like Aushwitz and Dachau.

Rowling is as much as a Holocaust denier as David Irving is. It’s not different from the “there were swimming pools at Auschwitz crowd!” They are lying deliberately for political reasons.

I believe that there is a concerted effort by a group to spread this narrative on tumblr especially. I have seen it posted by multiple unconnected individuals.

Mine was mainly a joke, but I thought first of MAGAs instead of just TERFs (they almost overlap though IMO) because they would be the ones to dedicate all the time, energy and alt accounts to attack trans even here.

At 35 I should remember what terms mean, but can you remind me what a terf is?

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist, or transphobic scum for short.

The term was actually created by transphobes as a way of dressing up their bigotry in expensive sounding words. But everyone just immediately understood that it meant "bigot" and used it as such, so now the TERFs cry that it's a slur despite being the ones who demanded we use it in the first place.

You'll also hear the term "Gender critical" (sometimes abbreviated GC); same origins, means the same thing.

The main distinction between TERFs and, say, far right evangelicals is that TERFs do generally like to think of themselves as feminists. They're not, because no workable definition of feminism includes prescribing strict gender roles, but they think they are. A lot of them claim to be leftists and may even vote for centrist or left wing parties. A lot of them will claim to be queer allies and pro gay rights and such (while conveniently forgetting that a trans woman threw the first brick at Stonewall). That's why you see them more in places like the UK, whereas American transphobes tend to be more openly racist, sexist and homophobic without dressing it up in faux leftist language.

That said, I think some people are starting to use TERF and transphobe interchangeably so it can get a little blurry.

Ah, thanks for the details. I hopefully will remember it this time but I see why many would remember it as transphobic easier, and replace it with bigot.

The term feminist definitely does draw a lot of different feelings/stances from people. Many believe they are but have bias that they exclude from their perception when viewing themselves. I watched a movie last night so it's on my mind still that was called "Our Times". Was about a married physics couple from Mexico (Spanish film but I believe there is an English dub) who travel forward from the 60s to 2025. It revolves around how the woman fits in easier and enjoys the changes and he doesn't and the things he says/does are considered unacceptable while he would have considered himself to be for equal rights for women and others would believe such back in the 60s. Overall it wasn't great and people could argue he absolutely isn't for equal rights, others could argue its obviously culture shock. Most of the movie I felt it was giving excuses to people today to not evolve with culture under the guise that they were born when the culture was different. But I'm sure everyone absorbs different perspectives from such. Overall it did do a good job at pointing out an obvious non-feminist, "feminist".

The overriding principle with TERFs is that they hate men with every fiber of their being. Seriously, that's the gist of it. They see trans women as men who are trying to invade women's spaces for nefarious purposes, and they see trans men as poor brainwashed women that internalized so much misogyny that they deluded themselves into believing they aren't actually women. Nonbinary people just get lumped into whatever box corresponds to their gender assigned at birth.

The irony is that all this trans hate always inevitably blows back on cis women. Cis women like my wife who I cannot tell you how many times she's been harassed in the restroom because she's got broad shoulders, an undercut, and a very Butch Lesbian aesthetic. Or my daughter who when she was around 2 a lady tried to steal a baby doll that we were going to buy her while loudly proclaiming that she should be the one to buy it because her daughter (emphasis hers) really wanted a baby doll and there were none left. This lady straight up thought we had twin boys but we just let one of them wear a dress because my daughter wanted her hair cut like her Mommy and had a really short undercut.
