Rules

1. Be niceDo not make personal attacks against each other, call for violence against anyone, or intentionally antagonize people in the comment sections.

2. Explain incorrect defense articles and takes

If you want to post a non-credible take, it must be from a "credible" source (news article, politician, or military leader) and must have a comment laying out exactly why it's non-credible. Low-hanging fruit such as random Twitter and YouTube comments belong in the Matrix chat.

3. Content must be relevant

Posts must be about military hardware or international security/defense. This is not the page to fawn over Youtube personalities, simp over political leaders, or discuss other areas of international policy.

4. No racism / hatespeech

No slurs. No advocating for the killing of people or insulting them based on physical, religious, or ideological traits.

5. No politics

We don't care if you're Republican, Democrat, Socialist, Stalinist, Baathist, or some other hot mess. Leave it at the door. This applies to comments as well.

6. No seriousposting

We don't want your uncut war footage, fundraisers, credible news articles, or other such things. The world is already serious enough as it is.

7. No classified material

Classified ‘western’ information is off limits regardless of how "open source" and "easy to find" it is.

8. Source artwork

If you use somebody's art in your post or as your post, the OP must provide a direct link to the art's source in the comment section, or a good reason why this was not possible (such as the artist deleting their account). The source should be a place that the artist themselves uploaded the art. A booru is not a source. A watermark is not a source.

9. No low-effort posts

No egregiously low effort posts. E.g. screenshots, recent reposts, simple reaction & template memes, and images with the punchline in the title. Put these in weekly Matrix chat instead.

10. Don't get us banned

No brigading or harassing other communities. Do not post memes with a "haha people that I hate died… haha" punchline or violating the sh.itjust.works rules (below). This includes content illegal in Canada.

11. No misinformation

NCD exists to make fun of misinformation, not to spread it. Make outlandish claims, but if your take doesn’t show signs of satire or exaggeration it will be removed. Misleading content may result in a ban. Regardless of source, don’t post obvious propaganda or fake news. Double-check facts and don't be an idiot.

"Whoops, I was pulling on the wrong stick."

[–] [email protected] 51 points 5 days ago (1 children)

They all said it was the wrong one but it felt so right.

Thank you, satans maggoty cum fart!

One is a joy stick, the other makes the plane do things.

Those plane engineers think of everything!

Mig-31 had a major engine fire

Isn't that the normal operating state of the Foxbat family?

Tap for explanationMiG-25 engine service life is 150 hours, MiG-31 300 hours. These engines are essentially burning themselves to death constantly. For comparison: the 🇨🇵Rafale engine, the Snecma M88-2, has a time between overhauls of 3000 hours, and is designed for a service life of 6000 hours.

Americans built the sr71, a plane that goes mach 3 and above. Russians build the foxbat, a rocket that goes mach 3 and above.

The MiG-31 is only good at one thing: speed. That bad boy can intercept damn near anything but it can't turn on a dime or go too fast unless shear forces tear its wings and airframe off. It's pretty much a cool looking paper tiger.

This seems like a fantastic example of "if a metric becomes a target, it fails in being a metric".

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 days ago

Eh, it works for what it is. The whole plane is basically a manned stage-1 of an AA missile.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Are you thinking of the mig 25? The foxhound was supposedly much more capable at low speed than the foxbat. Genuinely curious

[–] Someonelol 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Crap I think you're right. They look damn near identical to each other. I don't know what the MiG-31 could do better than its older counterpart.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

So I was curious because I genuinely had that mixed up when reading the thread, so I watched a quick documentary about the foxhound. It is extremely similar because it's derived directly from the fox bat platform. The mig 31 is an interceptor fighter. It's still extremely quick, but not as quick as the fox bat. It could hit mach 2.5 and could intercept the sr 71 if it was pushing hard apparently, especially given that a missile could reach out and touch the blackbird if required.

The biggest difference I learned was that the 25 was all go and nothing else, whereas the 31 was slower to allow for more capabilities. The changes that they made for the 31 allowed it to be somewhat successful as a fighter as well at lower speed.

Fun fact for the MiG-25: The engine lifespan is that low because it literally uses a pair of cruise missile engines. They're built to be used once. I can't speak for the MiG-31, though.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago

Twice as long as a cruise missile apparently 🤣

99% sure reddit poster wrote that intentionally to increase engagement

I inserted goatse picture but put googly eyes on it.

It works the same, I swear.

It’s something I’ve always noticed about Reddit; is how awful the spelling is on there.

[–] [email protected] 32 points 4 days ago

He got off safely. What a relief.

[–] [email protected] 30 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Impressive. I find it difficult enough to do while driving! And my passengers complaining also makes it difficult to focus...

[–] [email protected] 17 points 4 days ago

They are just jealous they can't drive stick.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 4 days ago

Fuck Reddit and Fuck Spez.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 4 days ago

Crashing a plane can be stressful so hats off to his copilot for thinking on his feet and relieving some of that stress.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 5 days ago (1 children)

So the pilot died doing what he loved?

The flight suit pressure-squeeze + the plane banking on 3-jizz makes it a truly unique experience.

(Dang, ngl, that sounds something you def need to kinda try given the chance.)

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago (2 children)

You probably could w/ the vomit comet?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago

Or one of those centrifuges. Would sustain it longer.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 days ago

At 3 jizz all of the (several diffident bodily) fluids get splattered away from me ... it's when the forces equal out a bit more that you really get the shitshow, but by then you gooned anyways.

I'm sorry, but Ivan managed to pull off quite a feat. He wasn't beating around a bush and came through.

“I tried to put it out— but a tablespoonful of semen was just no match for the ferocity of that engine fire… At the speed of Mach 3, it was difficult to direct the ejaculate after I opened the cockpit and I lost the load. Most of it all over my helmet. At that point I could no longer read my instrumentation”

[–] [email protected] 7 points 4 days ago

A medal of valour for doing everything possible to save the plane.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

This cumerade cumed & cum-flooded the cum-engines with too much cum and they went into uncumtrolled after-cum-burner mode that eventually overcumed everything and the cumjet just melted & climaxed in a great cum-ball explosion.

I'm glad the cummer lived to ejaculate in anther plane.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I mean, I respect his resourcefulness but a teaspoon of skeet isn't going to put out an engine fire:o

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 days ago

Well, def not if you don't even try.
