@[email protected] I am not aware of the BBS game! But maybe they were inspired by it, or the other way around...?
The game comes on seven 3.5" disks, and inside a lovely 1990s big box.
Our input device for tonight will be a Genius EasyTrak.
We start out in Zanthias laboratory, which has been ransacked. First order of the day: Find the spell book and the cauldron!
Not far, in a tree stump we find the spell book. But many pages have been ripped out! But a snake spell has survived... It might come in handy later. Also this sandwich spell maybe?
Anyway, once we found the cauldron we will have to try to get off the island. There IS a boat. But he only wants to take us if he gets some gold. We will put that on our todo list as well!
We explore a bit further and meet Marko, the slightly clingy and annoying magician-to-be. His apprentice -- the HAND -- seems a bit... fishy!
Inside of a cave is a sleeping mouse or rat pirate. Hmm... a pirate's treasure might be just what we need! Those usually have gold!
We can’t get past the rat/mouse. But he is afraid of his own tail, thinking it’s a snake. Well, we can use that! Let’s make that snake potion. We can find sulfur (smell of egg) at the hot springs. There is also hot water here. The toad stool we get from Herb. And it’s NOT the mushroom. Crocodile tears are no problem if you have an onion.
Oh yeah, forgot to mention that we found the cauldron in another tree hole!
Herb by the way is a big old toad. He has some smaller friends sitting on stools — get it??? He has also some more stuff we can use, but otherwise can’t give us much information at the moment.
Near the cavern there is a tree with colorful dragonflies. They are kind of a „Simon says“ game. We note down the combination because it might come in handy later…

And indeed inside of the cave, after we scared the rat away, we find a big skull. The teeth have to be played in the same order like the dragonflies! Inside we find a chest containing cheese and an alchemist magnet, which can turn lead into gold!
Cutting the story short: we acquire the lead anchor from the fishermen and turn it into gold. Now we have the payment for the ferry. But: the post dragon burnt it down and he lost all his letters! So if we help him find the letters he will take us off the island.
Finding the letters is as easy as visiting all the places we’ve been to before. And after a short while we are up in the air!
The dragon drops us off at our destination somewhere in the fields. Sadly we loose all our stuff during the jump…
We don’t get very far as the guards won’t let us into town. However they do like a picnic and sandwiches… we have a sandwich spell in our spell book! But we need ingredients for that! Lettuce, Mustard, flour, cheese…
We find a farmer, whom we give a letter that the dragon passed on to us. He makes mustard and even gives us the recipe: ground up radish and vinegar! Well…
We get some vinegar from him, but have to find radish and the other ingredients!
The farmer also has his field near his farm. There is a scarecrow, we will keep this in mind. However the field is not growing anything due to water shortage. But there is a pipe with an elephant shaped spout. So we go...
...uphill to a contraption that first of all gives water after turning a valve, und removing a stick from the water wheel, and also produces electricity. The big hand also crushes stuff. After the water flows, we water the field, harvest lettuce and radish. Then we use the hand to grind the radish for the mustard. We can scoop the radish out with the bowl we took from the farmer's dragon.
On our way back we suddenly meet a ghost in the haystack. He is missing a body... Well, we have seen a body! So we put him in an empty flask and off we go!
Back at the field, the ghost slips into the scarecrow and distracts the farmer! Now that he is gone we can go investigate his basement!
In the basement of the farmer's house we find some lucky horseshoes and a cheese making machine. We can use the milk from the sheep to make cheese! Which is one of the ingredients to making the sandwich potion...
Back at the water wheel contraption we can make mustard for the potion using the radish and vinegar, and also create a magnet by exposing the horseshoe to the electricity. All perfectly logical!
To be fair, most of the puzzles in this game are logical. Or at least follow traditional adventure game logic.
Now we have everything in place for the sandwich potion. With this we can lure the city guards off their post and slip into the city.
Past the city gate we find a cozy place. Apart from our trusty stick there is not much else to discover here. So we enter the sole building on this screen…
Inside the building is a shop for the local ferry line and the mustard cartel. The shopkeeper however seems to be in trance. This is actually a puzzle I didn’t quite get. For some reason we can heal all the people in trance state by giving them the skeptic potion… why…??
The map shows our destination: the volcano island. But the ship only goes to a different island.
The backdoor leads to a pub. It is closed however. But next to the door are colored buttons that open the door. By using the combination from the dragonfly tree AGAIN!
Inside the pub it‘s open mic night for the local poets. We grab some taffy and beer and make haste. Not much to do yet!
By the way: what is the beer for? I don’t think we used it later…
@[email protected] Kyrandia is disappearing... I still remember the intro music and some of the puzzles. Have fun!
