Iirc they were never going to let us self-host the servers with Zanaris. The plan was always for Jagex to host the servers and hosts to pay them for it
Meh. I'd rather have more, better content in the base game than experimental stuff at the fringes, personally.

I think there's a bit of a miscommunication, that's what I was saying. The community option is better because it will let you self host when Zanaris will not. This is important to me because I'm a SteamDeck user often without Internet, and I'm an ironman who can't interact with others anyways. So self hosting and connecting to my own offline lobby is something that would be ideal for me.

that's a respectable opinion that many people share, however I personally don't agree.
I personally think that OSRS has been going on for a LONG time and new content is stuff that the average player won't realistically reach. I think the average player gets to like skill 50 then gets bored and leave. I think that experience is refined enough to be preserved incase the servers eventually go down.
I don't think your opinion is wrong though, there is endgame content that would be nice
