With the launch of Call of Duty Season 4, Activision quietly put adverts inside loadouts for Black Ops 6 and Warzone, sparking a backlash in the process.

It will never be enough for them. Full priced game is not enough. Battle pass is not enough. Loot boxes are not enough, and advertising in game will not be enough. Have some fucking self respect and stop buying this shit.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago

They regularly have skins of famous people for $20 worth of in game points.

It is never enough.

We project infinite growth, and if we can't reach our goals, we are going to have to drop many of you into the capitalism volcano as sacrifice

Sweet summer child...

The correct answer right here

[–] [email protected] 47 points 1 month ago (3 children)

So... They stopped playing right? Because there are a lot of similar games without ads, so why would people just put up with it. Right?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Seriously who is still playing CoD in 2025? Same goes for EA Games. "Wow this game is shit I guess I'll buy the next one and hope that won't be shit!" must be what they're thinking.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

There are new humans being created every minute. Those humans are younger than you and your friends who grew up with cod. Those humans may be experiencing the game for the first time. Your group of humans are not superior to younger humans because you were here first.

The title makes it sound like intrusive product ads when it's just pictures of bundles for skins and other cosmetics that are currently available. Not nearly as bad as it could be ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago

That's good context, you're right the title made it sound like they were advertising KFC at startup. But, then again, an ads an ad.

Name something like warzone dmz and I'll gladly jump.

I literally just installed cod yesterday because I got bored of my other games.

Civ 6 Apex Black desert RDR2

Looking more for extraction PVP.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

I'd recommend Hunt Showdown if you're looking for an extraction shooter. Based in the louisiana bayou in the late 1800s, so the gameplay is pretty unique. The shooting isn't quite as satisfying as other similar games, but still quite fun.

Looking more for extraction PVP.

Have you tried Escape From Tarkov?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Wanted to but not on steam and only on the website. I'm not paying for a game that I can't return if I don't like.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

Fair point. Same reason I haven't tried it 🤣

It does look pretty rad tho...

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

I mean we could also refuse to play that game due to the absolute shitty monetization they tried to force onto people.

A lot of YouTubers straight up stopped playing because of it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

I've had that game on wishlist for five years and it still hasn't come to steam haha

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

I think it's coming to Steam with 1.0 soon.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Doesn't Counter Strike have an extraction type game mode?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Damn CS has extraction now? I'll check that out, haven't played since source came out.

Graphic were so shitty that they thought I was hacking while in water.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

I'm not really a CS gamer and haven't even played CS2. The last time I played was to try out their new extraction/Battle Royale mode in CS:GO.

I might be off base here and describing it wrong since I'm not very familiar with the genre so apologies in advance

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

They did years ago when PUBG was new (not extraction, but battle royale). It hasn't been updated for CS2 I'm pretty sure, so you can't easily play it anymore.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Branch out. Expand your horizons. There's thousands of games available.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

All the games I gave you are all diff genres of games and I'm asking for a specific game to switch from the warzone dmz since we are taking about cod.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Ok let's try some things for you:

Instead of Civ, try 'Shadows of Forbidden Gods'. It flips the script and you're an evil cult trying to conque the world.

Endless Legend is a really good Civ-like too.

I've never played Apex, and don't know what Extraction is. I also don't play PvP.

Re Black Desert .. idk, Conan is a fun game. No idea how close those are though.

We just don't play the same genres, so it's hard to give suggestions.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Then continue being treated like a piece of shit. Honestly nobody really cares that you want to play advertising and paywall games, just don't complain about how much you have to pay just to get access to everything that's already in game the game.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago

Where did I complain? Jfc. Immature.

I asked for a suggestion, you have one, and I gave you a reasonable response.

I've been really enjoying The Finals for a while now. It's fantastic and actually innovative.

ARC Raiders is coming out very soon if you want a really good extraction shooter. There's also Gray Zone, Escape from Tarkov, Hunt: Showdown, and many others in this genre, all with different twists.

ArmA Reforger I just started playing recently (I own all the other ArmA games but I was waiting on this, since it's still a work in progress, as are all modern games now though it seems). It's a platform, like all ArmA games, where you can play anything from the default Conflict game mode, where two teams fight over a map in a war that can last multiple days sometimes, or a new version of a DayZ style, or ArmA Life (basically GTA Roleplay, but it's existed in ArmA much longer), or so much else.

There's a ton of games out there. You've listed several genres, but all of them with massive budgets. The best games, in my opinion, aren't these. It's the smaller/indie games that are willing to try something new, but you have to look for them. There's been a bunch of civ-likes recently, there's tons of BRs and Extraction shooter style games (Zero Sievert is a cool solo extraction shooter, for example).

Don't just stick to the shiny games with big marketing budgets. Go find some gems in the rough and you'll be greatly rewarded.

I miss the days where everything was unlockable by just playing the game…

It’s so refreshing opening MW2 and and not having anything locked behind a paywall

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

This is why I love The Finals so much these days. You get the benefits of a live service game (updates, bug fixes, frequent content drops, an active and receptive dev team, etc), but their monetization scheme is set up so that you can only spend money on cosmetics. Weapons, game modes, account progression, are all advanced by playing the game, without any monetary path to advancement, whatsoever.

Besides, the game modes, gunplay, movement, and aesthetic in The Finals are all leaps and bounds better than anything COD has had to offer for years now.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 1 month ago

People STILL buying CoD or Battlefield games at this point deserve whatever they've gladly paid for.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

The thing is they want us to give in like how mobile players did. If you ever played codm, I know anyone from this community would pull their eyes out and bleach their eye sockets. The worst part is mobile players like it now, I've seen so many kids refuse to play games that don't have adverts that give them free crates. Adults that spend money for these are even worse. We should always actively talk against this shit.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 1 month ago (2 children)

If the adverts are completely optional, this is the best way to do it. "Here, if you watch this ad we'll give you free shit!" is way more likely to get me to watch whatever it is, but "You will watch this ad or you won't get to play anymore" is the fastest way to get me to uninstall.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 month ago

Both are equally bad and I'd reckon the former is worse for kids.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago
[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago

Yet they still buy shit from Activision!

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

Just ban it.

Do not stress over some corporation's ability to harass and degrade you. Acknowledge a business model is shit - and say, fuck that. If they want better profit margins, spend less money, sell more copies.
