Alot of this is caused by people buying tall suvs because they need 3 rows for all their kids. Here is a dumb idea.

Bring back front facing 3rd row wagons. Front facing 3rd row wagons are rare, only offered by GM in the 70s but they were so popular.

Bring these back and tax SUVs by hood height. Families will buy wagons again.

tax SUVs by hood height.

You don't have to do anything special. All you have to do is STOP giving SUVs special treatment. They are legislated as working trucks, which get a big break on taxes and emissions. That's the main reason the category is exploding. If they were subject to the same regulations as smaller vehicles, they would cease to be so attractive to consumers.

(emphasis mine)

I really don't think that this is why most people get cars with tall hoods. Most people who own an SUV don't even have more than two children, because families with 3 or more children are much rarer than SUVs (I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of SUV-owners was childless). Do most SUVs even have more seats than most regular cars?

Front facing 3rd row wagon

What exactly does "front facing" mean here?

That the third row is front facing. Ain't nobody buying a wagon with a rear facing third row.

Most of the time when I see and SUV it's only got one person in it.

Minivan hoods are sort of tall.

but they slope down for visibility, instead of being built to ram a gate
