You don't have to do anything special. All you have to do is STOP giving SUVs special treatment. They are legislated as working trucks, which get a big break on taxes and emissions. That's the main reason the category is exploding. If they were subject to the same regulations as smaller vehicles, they would cease to be so attractive to consumers.

Without the regulation exemptions SUVs have your SUV wouldn't be available in its current form... So yes, you did buy your SUV because of this... Yes you still might buy one if the same regulations were applied to it, but it would have to be designed a lot differently to meet the same regulations cars are subject to.
