REI, the shopping mecca for outdoor enthusiasts, has balked at recognizing its newly unionized workers. They accuse the retailer of breaking labor laws, which the company denies.

I assumed that because the (regular) prices are mostly sky high at REI that the people working there were well paid.

I guess I was wrong.

I thought rei was a co-op? The fuck am I paying so much for.

According to a friend who shops there, the option to "cash out" your share was removed, and now it's just expirable in-store credit. The "co-op" was basically turned into a Kohl's Cash-esque rewards program.
