We cannot reform capitalism.

We cannot reform religion.

We need revolution.

We must move beyond the laws and beliefs established in antiquity. Why would you let anyone from 2000 years ago convince you that they knew the 100% "divine truth" and should mandate how we must live?

Why would you let the reactionaries control your soul?

Why would you let the reactionaries control your soul?

This is extremely funny coming from the person who advocated for controlling the fashion choices of the entire world not even a month ago and got banned for it lol

That is extremely funny! This is a really good bit.

pigpoop

Look, this reddit-logo -ass take provides a crack for reaction. The new atheists ended up going pretty fascist because it was a short hop and a skip from "religion bad" to "and that's why the war on terror is good! Because it's killing Muslims!"

As porcupine said, religion is not the primary obstacle to revolution.

Given that the majority of the world is religious, we aren't going to win by telling them they all have to stop being religious before they're allowed to be Marxists. Better to meet them where they are. It is quite likely that religions will lose their hold naturally as a better world wrought through Communism leaves fewer unmet needs that require Religion to cope with.

Do you want a universal religion like you want a universal dress code

Nah, the smarter plan is to force the College of Cardinals (or non-Catholic equivalent for other organized religions) to elect a communist Pope and incorporate communism into the catechism followed by excommunicating everyone who refuses to kiss the communist papal ring and accept communism. If you think this is far-fetched, China already does this with Tibetan Buddhism. This is how they select who gets to be the next Panchen Lama. They tally up a list of "reincarnations" and hands the list over to the CPC, who then prescreens the "reincarnations."

As of now, a significant portion of the global proletariat is religious to varying degrees. Whether you like it or not, there will be people within the working class (even the revolution) who are spiritual for probably a very long time.

As spiritual (not religious) person I don’t take offense to anti-theist positions held by many leftists, since many of them stem from opposition to organized religion which makes sense.

What does raise my eyebrow, though is when combating religion becomes a major goal. In my opinion, there’s a fuckton of more immediate, material issues the left should be focused on instead. But that’s just my two cents.

China famously never used capitalism in order to advance towards their revolution

It helps to distinguish between personal belief and institutionalized religion.

Hope and meaning are all some people have. I do my fair share of bodying religious zealots who evangelize because they want to prove that their beliefs are scientifically true, but I reckon that the majority of religious people are just taking advantage of an opiate available to them.

Another side of me says this- Sometimes it is really tough to deal with religious people (Christians especially) when you can clearly see the patterns that span millennia repeating themselves over and over. I agree it’s one of the biggest Ls in human history that people still wholeheartedly believe in writings that were passed down, altered, re-written, given to those with extreme power to control and probably re-written again. People believe these writings to be divinely inspired despite all evidence to the contrary, so if religion is still going strong in this ubiquitous age of information, it will always be here. Though I’m betting it will gradually switch to people worshipping machines
