Hope and meaning are all some people have. I do my fair share of bodying religious zealots who evangelize because they want to prove that their beliefs are scientifically true, but I reckon that the majority of religious people are just taking advantage of an opiate available to them.
Another side of me says this- Sometimes it is really tough to deal with religious people (Christians especially) when you can clearly see the patterns that span millennia repeating themselves over and over. I agree it’s one of the biggest Ls in human history that people still wholeheartedly believe in writings that were passed down, altered, re-written, given to those with extreme power to control and probably re-written again. People believe these writings to be divinely inspired despite all evidence to the contrary, so if religion is still going strong in this ubiquitous age of information, it will always be here. Though I’m betting it will gradually switch to people worshipping machines
