Ah, see this is why Trump is such a genius! He knows that over half of Usians are incapable of (or perhaps simply unwilling to) thinking past one step. So:

  1. Trump makes tariffs
  2. Costs increase because of Trump's tariffs
  3. Company increases price because of costs increases because of Trump's tariffs

Becomes:

  1. Company increases price...because Trump

Critical support to Donald Trump for forcing legions of gamers to have to learn more about political economy

[–] [email protected] 13 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Why did they have to go and make the economy political?

Barricading myself in my room and cutting the phone and internet lines to keep the politics out.

Edit: Wrapping the room in tinfoil to keep the waves out too.

Wrapping myself in a space suit to keep the politics out

some people just like wrapping themselves in things

You buy the tinfoil? That's politics! You can never escape!

I can't believe Reggie just put tarrifs on Yoshi's Island.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 3 months ago

The Yoshi's take everything from us: even our Italian babies. And what do we get in return? Nothing.

I'm not going to spend time searching for whatever articles was mentioned here, nor am I asking or expecting any of you to do it for me.

However, I must ask if anyone knows off the top of their head what Nintendo did to make it political? Is it just because they halted pre-orders and mentioned the tariffs as a reason?

Normalize adults having fun and playing with “kid” toys

It’s sad how acceptable fun gets boxed into such a small range once society decides you have to be serious.

I think that’s why many people have kids. It’s socially acceptable to play with toys and generally just use the creative side of your brain, rather than min/maxing some MMORPG that is barely distinguishable from an actual job

Well the whole market is driven much more by “family” spending than NEET chuds.

our games are increasingly less popular nowadays. The cause? Declining birth rates and the destruction of traditional family values.

Announce that you'd have to pay 27% extra on every console that you ship to America

"Oh holy shit! We're going to see if that effects the price of the console. Sorry, that price was before the 27% extra in costs. One second."

"OMG!! Nintendo is making this political!"

That's so hilariously, transparently nonsensical. It sucks that that's the point of the post otherwise I'd spend more time dissecting what I hate about it. “Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I’m not sure about the universe" - Albert Einstein

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 months ago

Well now that they aren't selling them I don't want one

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago

This isn't a new guy, this guy has been around since the gamergate years. You just swap the old two genders, white cis man and political for two countries, the US and literally everyone else

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Question on the mechanics of tariffs. Nintendo (or any foreign company that deals in the US) sells consoles to American retailers. If a Switch is built in Japan and Nintendo ships it to the US, are they paying the duty? What if they're not buying it, they're just shipping cargo Nintendo owns to Nintendo America?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 months ago

Tariffs are an import tax, usually collected at the point of entry.
