Hi liberals, quick question, who signed the tik tok ban into law?

[–] [email protected] 60 points 5 months ago (1 children)

look, who built the cages isn't important. wait, I'm reading from the wrong card.

[–] [email protected] 46 points 5 months ago

The thing where libs need to pathologize actions by the state as tho it were their shitty ex doing it is maybe my number one pettiest grievance with them. I can’t fucking stand it lol

[–] [email protected] 43 points 5 months ago

It's cool as hell thar liberals have weaponized therapy speak in order attack others, manipulate people and avoid self reflection. It's dressed up ableism and also a more clear cut abuse tactic than what they're trying to pin on Trump here. Also they actually are doing the thing, Trump wasn't part of the taking away as far as I'm aware.

I hate armchair therapy talk so much

[–] [email protected] 36 points 5 months ago (3 children)

i hate that people call anyone they dont like a narcissist

we love demonizing those with mental illnesses, i guess

[–] [email protected] 23 points 5 months ago (1 children)

"Empaths vs narcissists" is just Calvinism for people who say they're not religious, they're spiritual. I will not elaborate.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 5 months ago

Manicheanism for the new millennium

[–] [email protected] 19 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, narcissists are villains, and definitely not people suffering from some form of illness who need support and care to cope with that illness. /s

And we should totally use this as a thought terminating cliché, so we can slurp more slop. Instead of reading or thinking.

I mean it's also confirmation bias, right? The narcissist that doesn't abuse you is never identified by their friend/family as suffering from NPD unless they disclose, and why would they with all the stigma?

The only narcissist I'm personally aware that I've met IRL was my abuser.

Everyone is a narcissist except me

[–] [email protected] 35 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Hundreds of years later and western ideology is still just "people are just born inherently good or bad therefore we have to make sure the good guys™ win" and they think they are so much fucking smarter and more progressive than everyone else. Fuck you chauvinist white supremacist pigs

[–] [email protected] 19 points 5 months ago

new site tagline please

[–] [email protected] 35 points 5 months ago (1 children)

This is the Democratic strategy for abortion rights though.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 5 months ago

I do think we should retire maybe later kiddo. That video was annoying as hell for sure but they're a relentless advocate for Palestine now and have basically fully dropped the Dems.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 5 months ago (2 children)

I have mixed feelings on this, I don't know how to format this coherently sorry, but I am interested to hear what people think about this.

I think it is pretty reasonable to extend grace to someone who has changed.

At the same time some of this is (like art) something that exists independent of the creator at this point .

I only know anything at all about them because people on this site mention they've changed since that video. That's great, but I also feel that tracking people/posters to determine whether you can reference stuff is not a reasonable behavior in a number of ways.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 5 months ago

I mean I get it, but it was years ago.

I'd hate to be known for my worst take ever for the rest of my life, personally, this is why it's good to avoid being internet famous I guess.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 5 months ago (2 children)

I think if were doing the whole solidary thing, we should remove the emoji. Continuing to use the emoji after they have changed is a good way to alienate them, us, or both. One of the tags you can use to search it is 'fascist'.

I say that not because I ever think they'll find this site and discover we have an emoji of their face, but to establish a kind of protocol to ensure we don't repeat offend. I don't know. It just seems like the right move.

And I haven't looked them up to confirm their stance, but I'll take it on faith for now.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Removing the emoji in general and certainly the tag seems reasonable to me. I know the emojis are fun but I think they inherently lend themselves to bad faith communication

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Wait....those aren't just stock photos? Who are those two?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 5 months ago

You don't want to know

[–] [email protected] 7 points 5 months ago

[–] [email protected] 16 points 5 months ago (1 children)

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 months ago

This one too improve-society

[–] [email protected] 14 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Huh, I did not know that. We should make a thread in [email protected]. Do you happen to have links to their socials?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 5 months ago (1 children)

@[email protected] I made a thread in [email protected] about the maybe-later-kiddo person. https://hexbear.net/post/4313486

If you have their socials you could post them there and I'll edit them into the post

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago

I don't personally follow them and didn't have them, but I see you located them.

[–] [email protected] 31 points 5 months ago

[–] [email protected] 30 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Square brackets and everything. Its wild.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Is there some Occam's razor explanation for it that isn't "they all got it from the same place and copy pasted it"

[–] [email protected] 19 points 5 months ago

Yeah, I don't think they literally had a meeting. The ideological pool they all wade in is so shallow that the only thing they know how to do is parrot. No analysis, just pure reaction. Also, they love wrapping this stuff up in this therapy, abuse language for some reason. Donald Trump has more material motivation then narcissistic motivations. TikTok was banned under a Democratic administration, and courted the incoming Republican administration to keep their shareholders happy. That's just capitalism.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 5 months ago

Taking something away and then saying someone else did is also a common manipulative tactic.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

I quit tiktok, I was honestly hoping it’d stay ban and make both parties squirm but profit making is more important than principles (lol). The moment they started doing kissy faces at Trump, it immediately gave me ick. And now they are flagging my favorite booktok account that often recommends leftwing nonfiction. So they probably struck a censorship deal behind the scenes.

Probably will try to touch grass and/or chill in Rednote.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 5 months ago

They were going to make kissy faces at whoever the incoming administration was. That's capitalism for ya. TikTok was always doing left censorship. They were doing right "censorship" too. Lots of conspiracy floating around. I've decided to start posting stuff I find through here or reddit to my account, since the iron is hot right now.

But taking a break is good too! I know a lot of people are coming to the same conclusion.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 5 months ago

Tortured continuation of the analogy: you are not even offering help to the abused. You are just constantly reminding them how abused they are - including this latest development. Where’s the bat and sugar in the gas tank? Or giving the abused enough money and resources to get away?
