Every time someone complains about pronouns, they will be assigned an additional pronoun

am i the only one who can't fucking stand the word "lefty"? every time i hear it, its from someone with completely liberal values but with a radical coat of paint, like saying how much they hate american capitalism and then shitting on AES. it's just a stupid word used by stupid people

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 years ago

Yeah, I'm a lefty

Lefteez nuts

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 years ago

idk how it even happened but literally only radlibs ever use it

Is this title confusing to anyone else? I mean, I’m pretty sure I get what they’re trying to say but that syntax…holy shit

You probably haven't seen the meme it's referencing:

[–] [email protected] 27 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Ah. I appreciate he context! Thanks

[–] [email protected] 28 points 2 years ago

It's cool, the online left lives in a cultural bubble. Not really that surprising.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 2 years ago

No, but maybe I have hexbear brain

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 years ago (1 children)

There's a lot of adjectives, and a couple nouns being used as adjectives, which did make it a bit hard to read to me🤷‍♀️. Personally I'd have used a semicolon instead of a comma as well, but that's splitting hairs.

Confusing though? No absolutely not, just a bit of a task to parse.

Read: confusing. You love splitting hairs, be proud! Lol Don’t let anyone tell you you shouldn’t be a stickler for semicolon use

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Idk, it could be the autism, but I don't see "Confusing" and "Effort needed to parse" as the same thing, I view "Confusing" as something that would be easy to misinterpret, rather than something that takes effort to interpret, for example, missing oxford commas can make a statement confusing as the lack of them can cause two subjects to appear as one in a list.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I mean, one of the definitions for confusing is:

Difficult to understand; not clear as lacking order, chaotic etc

You’re thinking of “confusing” as in confounding, or so nuanced and perplexing as to be out of reach of some people. Sentences are only difficult to parse in two ways: layered and perplexing (one kind of confusing), or broken/nearing nonsensical (the other kind of confusing). Confusing doesn’t have to mean the level of language is so high that it confuses simpler minds. It can be confusing by being so out of the ordinary and muddled that it takes some mental rearrangement to parse. My argument is this sentence falls into the latter. Still confusing. And could be a perfect example sentence for the dictionary definition I copy/pasted above.

Thank you for clearing that up, friend 🥰
