I'm working through.a first-timer watch of DS9, and there was sexual tension within seconds of their first appearance. It's the only romance the show has given me so far that has any real chemistry.

iirc they did kiss, Frakes' objection was that Berman was a coward for casting a woman for the enby alien instead of a man

that's very interesting, didn't know that. they cast conventionally attractive women for most of the enby aliens. they also wrote it so that the character basically looks at the camera and goes "just so you know this isn't gay in any way because i am a woman". also the character is trans and gets conversion therapied but we're only supposed to care because it makes riker sad... i love the episode and it's fascinating for the 90s but of course ultimately manages to reify gender and the binary. i have a lot of thoughts about this episode lol

On the one hand, I'm glad that Bashir / Garak is finally canon, but on the other hand, I wish it were canonized in a piece of media that wasn't Lower Decks.
I mean it would be nice if it had happened on DS9 yeah but Lower Decks is legit the best Star Trek anything that has been released in like 30 years

Eh, I tried watching the first three seasons a few years back and it never caught me. I respect that it seems to have a lot of reverence for the source material, but I just don't enjoy the humor.
This s includes TNG. Watch the first two seasons and tell me I'm wrong.
