Yeeeeeeessss. I've been wanting an alternative to Shadow play and OBS. Shadowplay kept fucking up for me, and I was never able to set up OBS properly.

OBS can do this kind of recording? I use it myself, but afaik it just records when and what you tell it; if you don't turn it on in advance, you can't just clip the last few seconds.

Well now I'm upset that I didn't know about this sooner.

Fucking finally. A simple alternative to shadow play. OBS is great but it's a bit overkill if all I want is a 30 second clip of a cool moment to share on discord.

Sounds cool, though that's probably the most generic name I've ever seen before 'Game Recording' (though it is pretty clear what it is). Call it something short and hip like, Steam Jetz or some shit.

I like to think that somebody at Valve asked if they should have a meeting to discuss naming this feature and people just went naaaaaah.

Whatever their reasoning, I honestly think I'd rather have a simple, intuitive name over a Gamer™ one. Preferences apply, of course, but I often find the latter cringe-worthy.

Without being told what it does "Shadow Play" doesn't sound like a feature that does what it actually does. "Steam Jetz" would have the exact same problem.

Game Recording, on the other hand... It also fits neatly with all the other generically named features like Steam Friends, Steam Community, Steam Achievements, Steam Input, etc.

OBS called from years ago.

Yea, how dare they try to make a competing software?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

I wouldn't even call it competition proper.

I'm sorry, but OBS is the gold standard, at least to me. I've no expectations that Valve will take its position... But they don't need to. Thing is, for a lot of people, a simple GUI to clip and share gaming moments, especially without having to install and learn how to use new software, sounds great.

Plus, I think it's safe to assume Linux support is a target. I like it.

Especially since OBS is overkill for people like me who just want to do the odd clip for friends.
