After the success of the Gollum video game it's clear the people were clamoring for more of this little freak.

To be fair I'd still rather play that than Hogwarts: Blood Libel TERF edition

I hate that this seems to be the only place I can go to get my fill of JKR getting shit on. Most of my friends loved it growing up and will at most agree that she's an asshole, but then they lap up any and all of her media for them and their kids.

Most people can’t handle the fact that their treats are afforded to them on the backs of marginalized groups and then separating the art from the artist still shows support for the artist.

It was bad in interesting ways, like watching certain B movies can be.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

it was sort of a throwback to the era of shitty movie tie-in games.

The First Entwives Club, staring Diane Keaton

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

I would happily watch that if they'd agree to never make any more gollum media

[–] [email protected] 24 points 1 year ago

Not gonna lie, that's one of the two LoTR stories I would gladly pay money to watch.

It's a spinoff of the Lord of the Rings XXVIII extended cinematic universe. Each of the cast and crew of LotR XXVIII get a film about them.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Oh, my mistake. And then each film could have it own franchise to create the LOTR multiverse cinematic universe.

this time you get to see up his asshole

[–] [email protected] 28 points 1 year ago (2 children)

God damn it they're going to give Gollum a love interest aren't they?

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They made Shelob into a goth dommy mommy already, I'm not sure they can come up with much else to shit on Tolkien at this point.

What exactly is supposed to be the tension in this story? We know how it starts and ends

[–] [email protected] 32 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Gollum uses a time-and-space machine to jump to the modern day. He lands in Oklahoma and he teams up with a hard-livin' roughneck who's working 18 hours a day to put food on the table for his strugglin' family of six. The roughneck is The Rock of course and then they...

I’m a huge fucking Tolkien nerd and generally receptive to new adaptations but I don’t really think this part of the story needs fleshing out even if they have the Gandalf taking out Dol Guldur storyline in there too. Give us Beren and Luthién ffs

I think stuff from the Silmarillion is off limits still? Which explains why all these spinoff are going for random shit.

I think the stipulation was no First Age, and anything new cannot impact the story of the Lord Of The Rings.

All the cool shit in the Legendarium and they keep going back to the most boring stuff.

STOP MAKING EVERYTHING A CINEMATIC UNIVERSE

NOT EVERYTHING IS A FUCKING COMIC BOOK

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

IIRC, the Tolkien estate refuses to allow any further mining of the Legendarium for movie/TV adaptations.

There's literally a war of power between gods that they could just play like superhero slop

Why the absolute fuck does anyone think people want to know more about gollum. Honestly just start making shit up with random brand new characters in the same universe and it'll probably be a better story.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

"Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina" presented like "The Ballad of buster Scruggs" was what I had hoped to see when they announced their shitty cinematic universe

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Why do people care about this? Have we all forgotten peter jacksons lotr movies were not the first?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

They set a high bar and are timeless.

Most people agree they cannot be improved upon, attempts since have proven this. The hobbit was meh. The rings of power was meh.

so what is being proposed here? prequel? sequel? "what if" where gollum gets to run off and open a diner?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

"what if" where gollum gets to run off and open a diner?

Please let it be called the Raw'n'Wigglin'.
