It happens, and it's a very sad sight indeed.

Edit: Yeah, that one is a fake. Sorry about that.

Doing an image search, there are a lot of real ones in various states of decay or oxidization. Certainly takes a lot more time (and straight up abandonment) for a DeLorean to show damage.
