Is there any specific song, lick or pattern you‘re working on? I‘m a bit out of my practice routine but would like to get back into it with fresh ideas. Ever since I‘ve been playing in a band, practice turned somewhat into stale song repetition, if any.

Nice! Gotta listen to that song for a change. I think it’s all about personal preference and style/technique. I usually stick to the higher frets (I.e. fifth fret vs open string) because that allows me to do stuff like slides and bends. Also feels more natural to me to mute a string by taking it off the fret vs floating above the open string. But that’s just me I guess? Haha

I never thought about muting! Slides are a little too advanced for me still, but it makes sense, yeah. I still feel more comfortable on the lower frets, especially as they're the only ones I can play without keeping my eyes on the fretboard constantly. I still get the awful twang a lot more on the higher frets.
