Looks to work well with Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox. However, you may need to logout, clear browser cache, close and restart your browser for success.

As Lemmy grows and develops we may encounter bugs. In particular, new bugs may surface after upgrading. We'll do our best to maintain a stable system based on the ongoing work. Our smaller sites in Europe, China and Japan may receive updates prior to our USA site as a way to test stability of new releases before implementing them here.

Please be patient and understanding as we grow and help you have a better Link Aggregator and Discussion Community experience that is open, federated and free of advertising.

I can't load any images posted on this instance, including profile pictures and such.

New Lemmy Drama: "Feddit.org officially announces they will ban criticism of Israel and pro-Palestinian posts and comments."

I find this morally reprehensible. I have always spoken against defederazation when others have mentioned it. This is too much. Apologies if this upsets anyone.

Palestinians are human beings and have a right to life.

Edit: I have been persuaded by some thoughtful replies. I will block them from my view. I no longer support making the decision for others. Thanks all.

Sadly, I can't ssh in to any hosts or tty. ๐Ÿ’” All the www pages appear to be down also. ๐Ÿ˜”

Anybody have any info?

The status site for lemmy sdf is showing some incredibly high latencies and saying the endpoint is unhealthy. I hope it's fixed quick

Just tried to open my mail with SDF's webmail client, and my browser asked for authorization to view the site. Anyone else getting this?

(screenshot is on imgur as I cannot upload images to lemmy.sdf.org)

https://imgur.com/rCdomY1

Edit: Looks like mail is working in general (from other clients, like mailx or K-9). Seems to be an issue specifically with mx.sdf.org/sm. My browser shows the authorization popup as it gets redirected to mx.sdf.org.

Edit 2: Looks like SDF added webpage auth for SquirrelMail:

We're going back to have webpage auth enabled for SquirrelMail which will reset once a week. To get the current auth to load the page, please run 'webmail' at the shell. Once you have that, authenticate to load the page and then login to your account to bring up SquirrelMail webmail.

For at least several days, I've been unable to attach images to posts. Additionally, I'm missing thumbnails in the feed.

I just tried to upload an image from an iOS client (Arctic) rather than the web to test and got an API "error in store" message.

What's causing this?

I've created a new community, but I cannot upload an icon or banner image to the new community. Looks like something is wrong with the image store.

This seems related to https://lemmy.sdf.org/post/31539314

I created a new local community recently, and it immediately had 45 subscribers. When I say immediately, I mean like programmatically upon creation. These were not even local subs, but rather subscribers from other instances.

What would cause this? Is it something to be concerned about?

I'm on SDF's Mastodon instance, specifically social.sdf.org for members, and I am have issues with custom emoji from other instances as shown in the picture.

Does anyone else have this issue? Instances like mastodon.sdf.org and social.sdfeu.org don't have this problem.

I have reported an account 8 months ago and sent a DM to the admin, but I haven't received a response yet and saw the account is still up after being reminded of the situation by the recent moderation issues. I have tried to email their abuse email address, but it seems to be non-functional (proton mailer sends back a delivery error).

I have heard from an SDF user that messages can be sent to the bulletin board to reach the admin. However, I have no experience using a bulletin board. I've made an SDF account and tried to post a message today in the REQUESTS section, but it doesn't show up in the listing.

Does anyone know if my post was successful, and if not, why? Or does anyone know how to reach an admin through other means?

UPDATE: My first attempt was successful, but the system just needed some time to process it.

Either we need to require members to use SDF emails to sign up or manage their Lemmy account login from the Maint console. Either way we need to limit it to Members of SDF who validated their accounts or shit like what's been happening will continue to happen.

I know that it would make this place less open for people but I think this would go a long way towards making the community more secure against these kinds of attacks.

One possible compromise would be that if we wanted a more open Lemmy instance, to create another one without Member restrictions on a different SDF domain i.e. freeshell.org. Though personally I'm not a fan of that idea at all since unmanned instances tend to gather spam or become derelict. It's much better to just have member-only instances and to encourage people to become SDF members with the $1 or โ‚ฌ5 charge for validation.

If we're being brigaded (that the correct term?) doing so may be less work/stress than waiting to get a hold of someone. Can Lemmy do such a thing? We do have precedent for this with toobnix.

In addition, @SDF if your plate is full I'm sure many of us, myself included, would be happy to help manage the instance.

Cheers

~~It is time to talk about sailing ship and encourage defederation of this instance, I think.~~

Update: Administrator action has been taken, thankfully.

I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but up / down vote counts are missing as of today.

Since a few days ago I noticed some minor changes on mlmym (old.lemmy.sdf.org)

The logo on top left is low resolution, and the community info sidebar isn't shown by default.

Before: https://web.archive.org/web/20250127103600/https://old.lemmy.sdf.org/ After: https://web.archive.org/web/20250204090416/https://old.lemmy.sdf.org/

Does anyone know if this change was intended? At least I'm pretty sure the logo isn't.. Not sure where to report. thanks.

The events unfolding right now are proof. The last I looked, the Lemmy instance isn't even advertised on the web site. It seems like an afterthought. There are a reasonably large number of people on this instance now, and things like this are bound to happen from time to time. I really do love the mission of SDF as an org, which is why I choose to put the stuff I make here. However, literal Nazi disinformation campaigns should not even have the chance to happen. We need an admin that is more accessible, maybe a second for off hours. I don't know. But if things like this can happen as is, it may be a reasonable case to shut the instance down. That is unreasonable, I know, but I am very angry right now.

There's a transphobic troll and self-identifying fascist who is posting on our instance and went so far as to create communities, including one dedicated to being transphobic. Could we get some action on this guy?

Edit to add: The user in question is "ashton1593" and the communities that they have created.
