I have a friend from work, really nice guy. He's one of those people who will leave everything they are working on to help you, even if that means they will have to stay longer for their own assignment.

He's married to a mean girl (in his own words), she's narcissistic, selfish and extremely mean to others while being "nice" to him. She hates his family for absolutely no reason while he's not allowed to say a word about her family. She has no friends and he's not allowed to hangout with his friends unless she's also hanging out with them.

She says things that he wants to hear but never acts upon them. He was just venting so I didn't want run salt to his wounds, but after listening to him for some time I politely mentioned "why is he with her?" He said "it's too late now, she's too dependent on him and he can't just up and leave". Obviously I called bullshit on this because they've been together for only 6-7 years. Just to add that he's an immigrant and comes from the community with lowest divorce rates, probably that's what stopping him?

So back to my question, can you justify staying with a mean person just because they are nice to you sometimes?

I've never fully understood why. Like I get that we all aren't always above board so why do to someone else that you wouldn't want done to you. But if someone is breaking the rules (in a significant way, context dependent of course), threatening to harm you (think high school bully that constantly physically assaults you) or something similar, then IMO you should snitch.

Most of the arguments against snitching are "bro thats not cool." Oh yeah, its also "not cool" to (enter negative thing they did/do here) to me. Of course one should try to resolve the issue without snitching when possible. This isn't jail, snitches don't deserve stitches'.

I will preface this by saying I know quite little about vehicle repairs, just the absolute basics. I’d like to learn more eventually but I’m going into this assuming I’d need to pay someone else to do the work.

My dream car is a baby blue Volkswagen Beetle. They can be hard to find, especially in the exact body shape/colour you want. When you do find one, either they’re early 2000’s with 300k km on them or they’re brand new and over $20k.

If I manage to buy one, could I feasibly drive it for the rest of my life as long as I keep replacing parts? I guess it could be a kind of ship of Theseus situation where eventually the entire car is different than when you first bought it, but looks the same.

I’d just really like it that if I manage to get my hands on my exact dream car, I could keep it for life.

Is this possible?

I'm 23, my dad's 66, I was born from his second marriage and I get he's older than most of my friends parents/people my age in general, who range between very late 40s to late 50s, sometimes early 60s. He's always called people 20-25 years ish younger than him a "kid", and despite these "kids" being older than me, I also consider them kids. Millennials are a lot younger looking and savvy and the oldest of the millenial generation are now in their early 40s. To me they're just finally becoming adults. It's hard to pin a certain age but, generally I'd say around 33 or 34 is when I don't consider someone a youngster like myself. Entering the mid thirties is what I see as a full adult. What are everyone else's takes on this?

I struggle with my emotions at times but I've never been a morning person literally since I was a newborn, all throughout school as a child, being in college, and now working after graduation. I just suck at keeping a regular sleep schedule and usually end up taking naps in the afternoon when I have to be up early or I just sleep in super late (like 1 pm to 3 pm).

I can still function as a mentally stable person (by that I just mean I have the wherewithal to do self care like shower, cook for myself, clean up around my home, socialize, etc) but I'm just in a much better mood in the evenings and nights vs the mornings.

I've seen some things that got me wondering why this is a specific habit of people who have mental health problems and/or depression. I understand over sleeping but why the sleeping during the day?

I'm a teenager and when ever I don't lock the the door by accident, my mom ridicules me. And I've heard that some Americans(or just some people in general) just... Don't and I find this unbelievable. Like even if you feel safe in your neighborhood it still doesn't hurt. And what do you even get out of not locking, few seconds of grabbing the keys?

I've (M25) been told to never approach women in bars, grocery stores, concerts, workplaces, you name it. Just to be clear, I understand that every person is different and not everyone hates to be approached, and I don't have any creepy or sexual intentions. Just trying to have a conversation and maybe flirt if it goes well. I also understand that if it's not going well to take a hint and leave a lady alone. But I've seen lots of women post some variation of "don't talk to women you don't know in public". I'm just scratching my head at how people my age are supposed to meet and get to know one another if guys aren't supposed to approach women at most places that used to be acceptable for that. I'm personally sick of using dating apps, so what kind of places or establishments is it acceptable to try and talk to single women?

I’m sure there’s a logical reason but just like … how? Like this giant chunk of land that neither Russia nor China care to just grab? Is it the terrain? Isn’t it like mountainous as fuck over there? Is that the reason? Idk I just don’t buy it lol

As the title says, if the majority of essential day to day services (Banks, doctors offices, government buildings, city and state services etc) are only open from 9-5, and the majority of office workers also work 9-5, how the shit does anyone expect anything to get done… Ever?? I’ve always worked nights, so it’s never been an issue for me personally, but my fiancé works a 9-5, and I end up running most of the errands because, naturally, she can’t be anywhere before their offices close. Makes no sense at all in a system (USA) that offers so very, very little in terms of mandatory PTO and sick time.

I have two questions:

  1. Why do Republicans always try to take away/ severely constrain women’s rights regarding abortion?

  2. Why do women who align with the GOP not have issues with that?

Thanks.

I am conflicted on going to the police about something I heard.

A neighbor had a party a few days ago. Said neighbor is known for their wild parties. I did not see anything really going on, just heard a fight and screaming of “leave him alone!!” The only reason I think this may be important is that I know the exact time this went down, as I looked at the clock when I heard it and the time was memorable to me. (For ex: 4/20, 11:11) I went to bed shortly after, as this is nothing new for the neighbor.

The next day, cops swarm the house and arrest said neighbor. He is being accused of a violent sex crime that happened that night.

He will be released soon to wait for trial. I am worried he will not be convicted guilty if there is not enough evidence, as I believe he did commit this crime.

I am wary of cops due to… reasons. So am hesitant to go to them. Is the fight I heard, at some exact time, important enough to go to the cops with info?

do you keep designated towels or use paper towels? or just toilet paper? as an american it's not commonplace to have one here but i just got one out of curiosity. it's great and feels way more hygienic but i wonder how others dry off after. i'm putting a roll of paper towels in my bathroom since they're more absorbent than toilet paper

update: mk i think the solution to my problem is getting better toilet paper than the 1 ply my parents always buy so i can dry off properly lol

I’ve been thinking about this for a long time as someone who was diagnosed in 1998 with ADHD I swear there has been such a rise in people claiming to have ADHD. I thought maybe technology or something might’ve contributed but every year I look up how many people are clinically diagnosed with it the number is always around 3% of the population. In my brain even if I’m trying to account for people who don’t get diagnosed I can’t see it going over 5% maximum.

Have people just been claiming to have ADHD because they might relate to some things we have (example: forgetfulness).

Also why is it never ADD people claim to have and always ADHD?

Disclaimer: I’m just salty there’s an addy shortage when I wanna be more diligent in taking mine 😭

I’ve been on cash flow meetings for a few years now, so at this point I’m too afraid to ask. I get that it’s the customer not paying on time, but I don’t understand the specifics, if it’s a weekly thing or monthly thing, how serious it is (amazing how corporate people keep their voices perfectly even whether something is good or bad), etc. I’ve tried googling it but it might be company-specific jargon because I only get old newspapers and beauty pageants in the search results.

I keep seeing people on Reddit saying that they want a child free wedding and if kids come that all the attention would be on the kids. I have never experienced kids behaving wild at weddings and I have never heard of anyone having a childfree wedding in real life or having such of a strong opinion on it. Some of the kids are brothers and nieces so basically all kids no matter how close the relationship. What even shocks me alot of this people are childfree... It seems 50% of Reddit users dont want kids when in my experience it's maybe like 3% of the people I have encountered don't want kids. So what up with Reddit users hating children

I believe it's because, at school, the students have to ask for permission to drink water and go to the bathroom when they need to leave the classroom. I'm worried that they could be being too pressured into following those rules and it could affect some other parts of his routine. It's, in my opinion, a bit too overly formal and obedient. I explained to him that he doesn't need to ask permission for things like that in his own house, but, as if it was a habit, he has done it at least 3 times. Am I parenting wrong or am I rightfully worried?

FYI, he is 6 in 3rd grade.

Every day, I'm seeing posts from married people <25 years of age. What is going on? Why did you get married so young?
