What games do you all prefer on BGA over their physical counterparts. Also looking for new games to try out.

Recently gotten into BGA and have been having fun with Regicide, Just One, 6 Nimmit, Sea Salt & Paper, and Burgle Bros

My group ranges 2-8 people and are usually more on the casual side of gamers.

There are decent board games for some sports

  • Baseball: What about baseball
  • NASCAR: Thunder Alley
  • Indy 500: Downforce

But I am unable to find decent games for:

  • Soccer
  • American football
  • basketball

When I mean decent I mean games where one has to apply the rules of the original game.

Preferably with miniatures, standees or pawns.

So I really want to get on mars but I'm scared it is too heavy of a board game. Games my group and I enjoy playing is Terra Mystica, brass Birmingham, and Agricola. In the best way possible can you describe how much harder on mars or if you haven't played on mars any other lacerda game. Thank you

Last night we played King of Tokyo on BGA for the first time and we had a blast with my group.

We loved it so much that I immediately looked it up to buy it only to realize that its not available in our country. Nowhere to be found, not even a used copy.

So I ask you, are there any similar games that are short and intense like this one? I lost count on how many matches we played because it was fast, and as soon as we finished we wanted to go again and try a different strategy.

Any help/advice is more than welcome, thank you!

Greetings everyone!

I'm diving headfirst into the gaming world as a creator, with my very first small scale Kickstarter campaign, and I couldn't be more excited about it.

"Heavy Lies the Crown": A Medieval Murder Mystery Adventure

  • Player Count: 5-7 players
  • Playtime: 3-4 hours
  • Perfect for: Friends who love solving mysteries and themed parties

I aim to create an immersive experience for those who love to gather around a table, share stories, and embark on adventures with friends.

Picture this: You and your group are stepping into the shoes of medieval characters, all suspects in a chilling murder mystery. As the night unfolds, you'll unravel secrets, decipher clues, and work together to uncover the malevolent presence hiding among you.

Additionally, it's a perfect excuse to host a theme-party...

Your support would mean the world to me as I take my first steps into the gaming world as a creator. I've poured my heart and soul into creating the game and I can't wait to share it with you.

If this sounds like something you'd enjoy, you can find out more here:

Thank you for helping me make this adventure come to life. Feel free to share your questions below, I will do my best to answer! Your support, whether it's backing the campaign or simply spreading the word, is greatly appreciated. 🙏

Thank you for being such a welcomming community, and here's to solving mysteries and creating unforgettable moments with friends!

Cheers!

In short I've been making my own for a while now, it's still in it's early stages so It's gonna take a while to complete, however while I've been enjoying doing it I'm also curious on how these types of board games sell.

From a financial stand point is it worth it in the long run? I know games like the Dark Souls Board game sold well, but I imagine a large part of it is because of the reputation it held prior. I know Gloomhaven did very well for itself too.

Thanks for reading and happy playing! :)

I understand that "The King's Dilemma" follows the history of several houses of a kingdom over time. But is it a game that you can play for a few hours and have a sense of "finishing"? Or does the game need to be played in several sessions to get a sense of following a history?

The group I play with are open to long sessions (we play TI) and I wanted to suggest this for a future session. I don't know if it would be a game that works if you only play it for only one session but for a few hours.

My son(15) really enjoys games he can strategize and bully someone and ruin their game. Preferably deck builders(resource mgmt and worker placement welcomed). I’d really like to battle him in something WWII themed. Is there anything out there that isn’t overly complicated. We can sit down battle it out and argue over the game well after it’s over.

I like to learn how to play boardgames before I buy them. There have been boardgames where I think I might or might not like it, bought it, and ended up loving it. For some reason, Spirit Island just didn’t call my attention after learning it. If I get it, what are the chances I’ll end up liking it? (Edit: Has there been an experience where the game didn’t call your attention and you ended up loving it? I love complex strategic games with replayability) What have your guys experiences been?

Edit: Thank you for all the responses.

I was having a conversation with a friend about board games and he was turned off by games that have player elimination.

I can totally understand his view because I had that view for a long time myself. But recently, I it dawned on me that most of those player elimination games that left a bad taste in my mouth had a lot of luck elements to it where I did not feel there was anything I could do to change the outcome.

In games where players have more agency, I think player elimination is fine. Of course, no one likes the idea of being out of a 2-hour game within the first 15 minutes but if you have some control over the situation and you specifically can influence the game state with your wit and decisions then it can be absolutely empowering.

Finally, in player-elimination games where players have more agency, I might be out of it before the game ends, but I have usually left thinking about what I could do to player better. If it were more luck based, then it’s harder to feel that way as it was mostly out of your hands. Chess is a good example of this (and I know many here don’t like chess).

I think luck-based games can help players come back but in the end, it doesn’t feel like I earned it.

Just wanted to share my ramblings

As the title suggests, what are your favorites? I'm missing an SF-themed game in my collection and would like to explore some titles that perhaps flew under my radar.

i feel like i cant enjoy video games anymore. but in opposition of what i feel, i'm regularly still buying games on my ps4/pc (even i have gamepass and ps plus subscription). but when i begin to play one of the game its always little dissappointment for me. cant play it, cant jump in that world and after that im deleting the game. but it cant stop me about that buying another game on ps store/steam a week later but same disappointment feeling catches me again. maybe reason is my age (i'm 36) i dont know. i was always exciting about video games, all of my life, and now i wanna catch that feeling again and im not getting even close. maybe i just missed that excitement about new games or all that immersive and "take your gamepad and forget the real world" shit i dont know. but its true that video games are not exciting me anymore and im trying to catch feel but i cant. actually when im playing video game, im feeling like someone is directing and saying what i have to do all the time. i feel like i cant use my brain and solving problems when playing video games, feel like i just pushing some buttons on my gamepad.

but when playing boardgames i feel like all decision is mine. maybe boardgames look like more limited than video games about player choices but i think its opposite. boardgames giving more choice , in its particularly design and rules. it attracts me lot about boardgames.

anyway is it time to give up video games for me? anyone has the same feeling? boardgames still always exciting me rather than video games. is it time to put boardgames in the center of my gaming life? and not even bother with video games anymore?

I recently got my first extra tokens to enrich my favorite board games like Arkham Horror, Ruins of Arnak, etc.

When I showed them to a friend, he welcomed me to the "Token Club"... It was than, that I realised that it was not the most common Club to be in :)

So are you part of the "Token Club" or not? And where do you get your stuff?

When moving your piece after spinning, are you allowed to precount where your piece will go upon reaching the branching path?

For example:

Marc spins a 10, before moving his piece, he uses his finger to count the spaces along the path. He reaches a branching path with 3 spaces left to go. He counts 1 space to the right, then 2 spaces UP, then checks if he went 2 spaces DOWN. If Marc chooses to go UP, he will gain 2 coins. If he chooses to go DOWN he'll gain 5 coins. Marc chooses the DOWN path and gains 5 coins.

Marc gets accused of cheating by the other player for precounting the path.

Marc replies: I'm not cheating. I'm counting.

Is this considered cheating?

Do you buy them when the game is getting boring and a bit repetitive. And you hope it gives it a second wind. Or when you still think the game is great and you hope the expansions make is even better. Or keeps it great.

I love board games, especially games like monopoly but nobody likes them and I’m the only idiot who does. They don’t have to be games like monopoly they can be backgammon, sorry, catan, etc. Maybe even chess if I didn’t suck so hard at it. RPG games like DnD are too intimidating for me. How would I find friends that will play with me and how would I find time outside of school to play with them. (I’m 14)
