When moving your piece after spinning, are you allowed to precount where your piece will go upon reaching the branching path?

For example:

Marc spins a 10, before moving his piece, he uses his finger to count the spaces along the path. He reaches a branching path with 3 spaces left to go. He counts 1 space to the right, then 2 spaces UP, then checks if he went 2 spaces DOWN. If Marc chooses to go UP, he will gain 2 coins. If he chooses to go DOWN he'll gain 5 coins. Marc chooses the DOWN path and gains 5 coins.

Marc gets accused of cheating by the other player for precounting the path.

Marc replies: I'm not cheating. I'm counting.

Is this considered cheating?
