This is a frame from a pupular video. I don't seem to be able to find the animators page (source). I tried reverse image search, AI analysis; didn't work. Lemmee wouldn't lemme upload the picture so it's a link.

  • Both are anime
  • Both center on a pair of students at a prestigious private boarding school
  • Sapphic attraction and gender variance play central roles in both
  • Both are anime (I forgot that one)
  • The ADR scripts for both evidently spelled one of the main character's surnames with ⟨ou⟩ instead of ⟨ō⟩, prompting the dub VAs to pronounce that name with an /u/ instead of an /ow/, which the dub directors may or may not have been behind but certainly didn't try to correct in any case.

Today I watched:

Bloom Into You episode 3

It was decent but I'm maybe not that excited to return to it. I think this is another case of being good but having stiff competition, and maybe just me having a negative bias due to it being Yet Another high school show.

I'm in Love With the Villainess episode 1

This was decently entertaining but also sort of middle of the road. I do love me a good ojousama laugh, but I'm gonna file this one with 'Tis Time for Torture, Princess where one episode kinda seems like all I need, or, "How are they gonna stretch this premise out to twelve episodes?"

Hidamari Sketch x Honeycomb episode 1

The style seems a little different from the previous seasons in a way that I'm not too sure that I like. Otherwise, it's more Hidamari, and I do enjoy my Hidamari. Continuing this one I think will be a priority for me just because it's something I already have some relationship to.

Revolutionary Girl Utena episode 1

This was pretty cool! At this point I honestly just have to commit to watching this classic — it is pride month, after all!

Sailor Moon episode 40

Just six more episodes left, crazy to think that I started this show nearly five years ago and only just now have committed to finishing it.

Macross: Do You Remember Love?

This movie was the standout hit of the day, I think. Great aesthetic, the runtime made me gulp but it honestly did go by pretty quickly. It's a fun premise and I think a good introduction to the ever-popular Macross series. A random background character gets decapitated at one point which felt kind of unnecessary because otherwise it didn't really have any gore that I could remember.

I was pretty sleepy for much of the movie, though. At one point I actually went into my laptop's display settings and turned the display orientation to "portrait" just so I could lay on my side with one eye open... Not because it's a boring movie, obviously, but just because I was feeling kind of tired.

For this edition of Saturday Anime Night, we are beginning the classic Gainax series Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water (1990), covering episodes 19 through 24. Join a rag-tag group of unlikely heroes on a steampunk adventure to find and save the lost city of Atlantis from an diabolical organization determined to rule the world. Stargate (1994) and Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001) pretty much ripped this series off. Oh yeah, and did I mention that Hayao Miyazaki wrote it, and Hideaki Anno was involved, too?

After that is Lost in Starlight (2025), which Netflix advertises as their first-ever original Korean animated film. It centers on a pair of lovers in the near future who are torn apart when the lady, an astronaut, is selected to go on a mission to Mars. Will interplanetary travel keep our couple apart, or will they still be together? I guess we’ll find out. This is one of the few animated films directed by a woman, Han Ji-won, and is her most popular and best-reviewed work to date. A lot of comparisons to Makoto Shinkai’s work here, such as Your Name (2016) and Weathering with You (2019). Good reviews for this, so let’s give it a whirl.

We’ll start at 8PM EST on Blorptube, right here:

Friggin half of the things in the 100+-item-long planning list I don't even remember why I added them, a handful of the things even look like "dead dove" shows (shows where the tin indicates it's probably insufferable goonbait, then it turns out to in fact be insufferable goonbait)

So I dunno maybe this thread can just as easily be used for pruning my planning list, if there's anything where there's an absolute consensus it isn't worth my time.

Or hell, maybe there's something you think my diseased self should experience that isn't on the planning list already. I'm not going to stop you from making recommendations.

In any case, time to grab some vegan ice cream and enjoy my catgirl who is both cultural and all-purpose and named Nuku Nuku, see you on the other side

Edit: I'm gonna say I'm done with binging anime for today. Between 2:15 and 10:15 PM I ended up watching, in order,

  1. All-Purpose Cultural Catgirl Nuku Nuku (OVA) ep 2
  2. Frieren ep 1
  3. Land of the Lustrous ep 1
  4. Odd Taxi ep 1
  5. March Comes in Like a Lion ep 1
  6. Shoshimin ep 1
  7. Makeine ep 1
  8. Mobile Suit Gundam ep 1
  9. Tis Time for Torture, Princess ep 1
  10. Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei ep 1
  11. Bakemonogatari ep 1
  12. The Twelve Kingdoms ep 1

This is to say that 288/480 minutes, or ~5/8 hours, was spent on watching anime today. Depending on how I feel tomorrow, I may watch some of the suggestions in this thread that I didn't get to.

My overall favorite of the anime I watched today has to be Makeine. The others each had their own strong points, too, and might've beaten Makeine if I were in better health, but with my currently fried brain Makeine was the one that I think hit the best.

Please remember to bring Loki with you Luffy.

What did you think of this week's chapter?

One Piece will be on break next week luffy-exhausted

Remembered this today and thought of you all. I watched it back when it came out, and figured in case you haven't checked it out, you should.

Technically there's spoilers in the video (each episode's OP "recaps" material), but also, it won't make much sense until you get to that point.

Baccano! remains a truly goated show. One of the best uses of time structure to foreshadow and "backshadow" that I've seen. Also, Isaac and Miria are truly enjoyable characters -- it's a very fun show that's worth your time.

...is basically the backstory to Star Trek, but worse?

Going from the Season 2 shenanigans, continuing on the "love is the answer" themes. I understand what it was going for as a movie, and pulled it off kinda competently.

The ending was frankly weird, with Setsuna going all Mass Effect 3 ending to end the conflict out of nowhere. But I did like the portrayal of the aliens themselves. An unknowable entity you might not even be able to communicate with, not to mention know their intentions. You know what this reminds me of? Oh wait I already mentioned that series in the first sentence.

Overall, a good Gundam AU, that failed to live up to its heights from Season 1. Fantastic music though. It made me go down a kick of 2000s Japanese Alt Rock.

chefs-kiss one of my favorite anime dubs, I love ocean's work on dbz too. It's cool to see old anime dubbed that actually respected the source material.

Give it a watch before sunrise or bandai or whomever owns gundam now takes it down.
