Pic related Baron Zeppeli is absolutely a dandy boy.

So I started it with Phantom Blood (rip Danny you were too good for this world lil' pupo) and the entire thing just feels so blatantly queer coded. From the vogue poses MID FIGHT to the insanely buff Johnathan Joestar wrastlin' with the insanely buff Dio Brando. And THE FASHION, it takes place in the late 1800's and yet Jojo is rocking some fabulous outfits.

I love it so far btw it's fantastic and I'm looking forward to Stardust Crusaders and Golden Wind which I know are fan favorites.

Major manga scanlation site MangaDex has been hit with a large-scale series of DMCA takedown notices from companies enforcing their copyrights, resulting in an estimated 700+ series removed in select languages. These companies have also filed DMCA takedowns with Google to reduce visibility. This is available publicly and, in just the last two days, includes Kakao, Naver, Lezhin, Suiseisha, Kodansha, Houbunsha, WEBTOON, One Peace Books, Toomics, NTT Solmare, Square Enix, Ridi Corp.’s Manta, Alphapolis, Shinchosha, Toyou’s Dream, Shogakukan, WWWave Corporation, Mag Garden, and Bunkasha.

You can check out the list of titles removed in select languages as it updates (via Reddit). Notable titles include My Dress-Up Darling, Oshi no Ko, The Quintessential Quintuplets, The Apothecary Diaries (both versions), Black Lagoon, Bleach, Blue Box, Dragon Ball, Golden Kamuy, Heavenly Delusion, Solo Leveling, Tensura, and The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity. The above titles are all licensed and readily accessible in some languages, including English. Many have reported that unlicensed titles are also part of the takedowns.

The episode title references "The Plot to Assassinate Girhen", a spin-off manga series for the OG Gundam, which in turn is a reference to the movie "The Plot to Assassinate Hitler".

No robot fight, and most of it was exposition and table setting, but this is the good kind of exposition and table setting cos I can't wait till next episode to see how everything comes together for the climax. Last week I complained about too much teen angst and not enough politics, but this week I'm practically drowning in it. I'm not even mad that Kycillia's cameo wasn't even 2 seconds lol. Two whole Zeon factions (Kycillia and Gihren), Side 6 itself and the motherfucking TITANS?!?

I didn't expect them to show up at all- repurposed in this timeline as the Space CIA (the official description on the show's website for Bask Om is that he is "Preparing to create a Far-right Special Forces unit" lmao). I am a bit worried if all the super deep-cuts to Gundam lore is alienating new viewers (Gates Capa? Really?), but so far it's relatively self-evident in-context and I think everything going on with the main trio + Challia is compelling enough (Goddam Mr. Bull certainly knows how to make an entrance).

Speaking of the main trio- I'm really happy with how they decided to handle Machu + Nyaan. Machu screaming "That's my space!" is probably the rawest, most realistic thing a teenager could say there, and I'm glad they didn't drag out the interpersonal conflict beyond this episode, because while they might not be overly interested in politics, politics has certainly taken an interest in them.

we Eva now

Sidenote: there are college entrance exam books alongside immigration procedure manuals on Nyaan's bookshelf in her apartment, so we probably know her motivation now (thank you Japanese speaking fans for pointing that out)

Next week: In Universe in the OG Gundam timeline, the Second Neo-Zeon War (the events of Char's Counterattack) is also known as Char's Rebellion.

Saturday Anime Night, 8PM EST: Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean (2021) eps. 37-38, Gainax’s Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honneamise (1987), and Ferngully: The Last Rainforest (1992)! (CWs inside)

For this edition of Saturday Anime Night, we are finally fishing our multi-year Jojo odyssey with the last two episodes of Part 6, Stone Ocean. Yep, it’s over. I bet these last two eps will still have a lot of posing and punching, though.

After that is Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honneamise (1987), Studio Gainax’s feature debut, and still one of their better-regarded works. In a quasi-steampunk dystopian future where the eponymous Kingdom of Honneamise and a neighboring republic are on the verge of war, a young man and astronaut candidate seeks to use the awe-inspiring wonder of space travel to stop the world from destroying itself. Will the kingdom’s space program succeed and bring the world together? I guess we’ll find out. This is Hiroyuki Yamaga’s only feature-film director credit, though he did also helm the legendary Daicon IV (1983) short and worked on Gurren Lagann (2007), as well.

Next is Ferngully: The Last Rainforest (1992), one of the better-known Disney knockoff cartoons of the 90s. A fairy shrinks a human boy down to her size to enlist his help against the greedy capitalists who want to destroy her forest to build some polluting buildings instead. Notable for Tim Curry’s performance as a sentient, singing blob of goo. Robin Williams voices a bat, too. This is director Bill Kroyer’s only feature-film credit; he is a one-hit wonder. Let’s check it out.

We’ll start at 8PM EST on Blorptube, right here:

Be there, comrades!
