Do you have dream paralysis? That's what I think I have.

Whatever the dream is, and there are a variety of situations, but I'm 'stuck'. I'm dreaming but I can't move.

I strain to get free and move but can't break free.

At the end of the dream I wake up, usually wrapped up in bedsheets and physically aching from trying to unbind myself.

As an example, I had a dream where I was on a reality TV show. The point was to get from point A to point B. I was really struggling to crawl to point B. Then I saw my body on the floor being attended to by an EMT. Seeing my body with the EMT triggered something and I woke up as I was physically stepping out of the bed in real life.

'contextual knowledge'

this gem was put forward in all seriousness when the data didn't support the claims in the report: "it's not in the numbers, but we have a pretty good sense that this is true"

English: Please : Thank you

French: Aujourd'hui : Merci

Spanish: Por Favor : Gracias

German: Regenbogen : Danke

Swedish: tillhör alla : tack

EDIT: This was just a small play at poetry as I wish I knew all of these languages but do not

Why can't uBlock Origin and this thing work at the same time?

Love SomaFM and have the t-shirts, magnets, stickers, etc. to prove it!

Mostly into the DroneZone as ambient while at home or at work. Listening with noise-reducing headphones makes it even better.

Get out those measuring tapes...how big is it?

Your book collection.

I thought this was a fun/silly thing to chat about and wanted to share it here.

I use the My Library app on Android to catalog my personal collection (less than 800 books but growing)

Do you ever 'weed' your collection? What's your ratio of print to ebooks? Do you collect in certain subject area(s)? From where do you acquire? (used bookstores, online, new bookstores, etc.)

Thanks for sharing!

Some kind of general pain suppression.

You could turn it off, if you're into that and sometimes pain let's you know there might be a problem, but the endless agony people go through would end.

Starbucks. They moved into my neighborhood and put a bunch of small business owners (cafes) out of business including one owned by a very good friend.

Are there any other single gay guys (50+) out here?

I'm not looking for dating/relationship advice/offers.

I'm asking single gay men: What are your retirement plans?

Is there a retirement village where all the gays go to?

Right now, I rent in SF. I'm alone

Title I do not want a Microsoft account. Microsoft doesn't need any more info about me than they already have. Thanks

Have you read any of these? plan to? recognize an author?

How can I tell which print edition of the New Yorker has the online article? Do all online articles appear in the print edition?

I read the online Interview with Justin Torres, loved it, I want the print edition to frame. The online edition says it was published 12/31/2023, I just can't find it in print.

"He had the handsomest wop kisser I ever saw" -Jean Genet "Thief's Journal" p.185

What does wop kisser mean?

I'm in the US.

I haven't discerned a pattern, by the media, in the titling of the horror currently underway.

I've seen Al Jazeera use both phrasings. I haven't determined that other media sites are hardlining their terminology either, but I notice the difference as I browse.

Maybe it doesn't mean anything, but these days people seem extra sensitive about names.

David Wojnarowicz was born this day (9/14/1954). Artist in a variety of media, and hero to at least one freaked-out fa%%ot in the closet back in the late 80s/early 90s. Whether he wanted to or not, he gave voice and form to the absolute RAGE felt by a population that was dying so those that survived could create a better world for LGBT people. More. More. And this latest book of letters!

Recently started using Alexandrite and am really enjoying the experience, but have questions.

I'm thinking of Alexandrite as the chocolate shell over my lemmy.world ice cream cone. Alexandrite is not an instance, correct?

I have not found a place on Alexandrite where my subscriptions (joined communities) are listed. Is this not yet available?

I assume that if I join a community in one (either Alexandrite or Lemmy.world) it will sync with the other. True?

I've joined communities in Alexandrite, but they don't show in the list of subscribed communities in lemmy.world. That just may take more time. Yes?

Thanks!

Title.

Newbie, recently joined, 7/1/23.

Right now, I'm on three: Lemmy.world (my 'main' or 'home'), kbin, and Blahaj Lemmy. I'm looking at Reddthat and sh.itjust.works as well.

Just curious. I know most of the content will overlap, but there are differences in philosophy/moderator style, etc.

Do you like having ONE instance?

I'm loving Alexandrite as the Dove dark chocolate enrobing my lemmy.world ice cream bar!
