The razor felt SO good. As far as straight razor shaves go, it usually doesn't get any better than this for me. Good stuff.

Mood Indigo is getting low. Maybe less than a week left if I keep using it consistently.

I'm doing a PIF of a Chatillon Lux aftershave. Find it here.

  • What's a PIF? Pay it Forward - I'm giving this away to a winner.
  • Who can enter? Anyone whose username I recognize. If you're seeing this but haven't interacted with this community before I'll probably just pass your name over. No offense, but this is a unique aftershave and I want it to go to someone who will appreciate it.
  • Why is this being done on Lemmy/PieFed instead of Discord/Reddit? - I prefer not to use Reddit if I don't have to. I won't crosspost it there because it seems in bad taste. I'll crosspost this on Discord, though, because it's a chill bunch there.
  • What is Lemmy/PieFed? Lemmy started as a Reddit alternative, and PieFed started as a Lemmy alternative. Lemmy is the OG, and PieFed is the new kid in town. I can't make a decision for you on which to join, but my personal preference these days is PieFed (though all of the SOTD posts are still made on Lemmy. Either way, make an account on either one (or both) and subscribe to wetshaving and interact from there.

This is a used aftershave, and I think someone along the lines must have added more cooling agent than the default. All or most CL aftershaves have a little bit of menthol, but this one hits way too hard for me.

To enter, just leave a comment here to the tune of "I'm in".

CONUS only, unfortunately. Alcohol and whatnot. If you want to enter and have me ship it to a re-shipper, I have no qualms with that.

The PIF will close in roughly 2 or 3 days, and I'll ship it out in the next week or two depending on work :-)

August 31st, 2025: Nice

  • Brush: Wolf Whiskers - "Gianmaria" w/Maggard 26mm Synthetic
  • Razor: Blackland Era - Level 3
  • Blade: V12 Super Platinum (2)
  • Lather: House of Mammoth - Mood Indigo - Soap
  • Post Shave: Chatillon Lux - Weinstrasse - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Dove - Men+Care Ultra-Hydra - Cream

Really nice shave. Super duper. I always regret using this aftershave, though. I think someone must have added some sort of cooling to it in addition to the little bit of menthol that CL aftershaves had by default. Either that, or I get some quick frag burn which combined with the menthol makes it even worse. Either way, this aftershave hurts. Time to give it away, I think.

I've been using straight razors pretty consistently (except when I travel and use cartridge/disposable razors). Going back to DE is a pleasure, especially with a blade that works well. These V12 blades might be my favorite, though it might be a toss up between them and Zorrik. If I had to choose 3 blades for the rest of my life it would be these, Zorrik, and Bolzano.

I've used this soap 8 times this month and it's in my sights for a tub kill. My lathers yesterday and today were quite nice. It seems I'm getting it dialed in (more soap, more water).

Looks great. I think for something like this finishing isn't strictly necessary. The wood will change over time, but I wouldn't be concerned with it getting dirty or stained like mentioned below. It'll just add character, if anything.

One thing to consider would be mineral oil (found in the laxatives section in the grocery store, usually). It's cheap and will help keep the wood nice.I use it on my cutting board, and it needs to be reapplied every so often for that use case.

I'm excited for the stropping result. Subscribing for updates!

August 30th, 2025

  • Brush: Stirling Soap Co. 24mm Synthetic
  • Blade: Dorco SD507 Disposable (5)
  • Lather: House of Mammoth - Mood Indigo - Soap
  • Post Shave: House of Mammoth - Santa Noir - Aftershave

Easy hotel shave. One of the better Tusk lathers I've gotten recently. I think Santa Noir might be a good travel/work aftershave for me. It smells nice but isn't overly strong. The dry down is mellow enough that it shouldn't bother any coworkers, some of whom I have to work in close quarters with.

As someone who has read almost all of your SOTD and Free Talk Friday posts about the stresses of school and exams, I'm so glad it's over!

Seriously though, congratulations.

I'm on my computer now, so I'll type out some more detail if you're interested. To reiterate, I'm just going off memory and it was two weeks ago so I could very well be making stuff up...

The pre-filled input box asked for each blocked instance to go on a new line, so:

lemmy.world
lemmy.ml
lemmygrad.ml
hexbear.net
lemmy.zip
piefed.social
etc...

I deleted all of the defaults and that was it. I'll put a screenshot of the settings page that's available to admins below:

August 29th, 2025

  • Brush: Wolf Whiskers - "Gianmaria" w/Maggard 26mm Synthetic
  • Razor: Gold Dollar Straight Razor (9)
  • Lather: Wholly Kaw - Cuero Oscuro - Soap
  • Post Shave: Southern Witchcrafts - Incorporeal - Toner
  • Post Shave: Dove - Men+Care Ultra-Hydra - Cream
  • Fragrance: Fanzine Saponifications - Caravaggio - EdP

I haven't used this soap sample in a really long time. It's old and getting hard, but I was able to spread it around on the inside of a tub lid and load it no problem.

I enjoyed the lather, but I got some mild frag burn which took away from an otherwise enjoyable shave. Oh well!

If I remember correctly, I was presented with a text box pre-populated with the list of bad guys. I just selected them all with Ctrl-A and hit delete.

Sheffield, indeed. "Cutlers to their majesties. No. 6 Norfolk Street Sheffield"

After my experiment today, I'd say it probably depends on the razor :-)

I don't think he's on the fediverse, so figured I'd make a post about TheStallionPartThree's new soap busines, Fanzine Saponifications. Available on Etsy. Link ----> https://www.etsy.com/shop/FanzineSapone

This is Not a Test is an original scent by him using EO's.

Caravaggio is a dupe of Killian Dark Lord.

There are also some shaving brushes available made by Rad Dino.

After seeing pictures of it and voting for it on multiple occasions on the contests held here, I got to see a Eurasian eagle-owl in person today. I was a little far away so the picture isn't that great, but I was very impressed.

I also got to see a Barn Owl, and it was beautiful!
